Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I can’t understand using NOS mode without feeding an upsampled file produced by Audirvana or some competent upsampler. Without that you are listening to a conversion through a very steep low pass filter with artifacts of phase linearity and possible aliased components. To do that is to go back to the early ‘80s to listen to early CD players and then complain about digital sounding. Just my opinion.
Well-designed modern resistor array NOS DACs (Holo, Metrum, Sonnet) sound nothing like 80s CD players. But they still pay with treble roll-off (which I can barely hear at my age) for their improved tonal density. I've ended with a compromise, HQPlayer upsampling filters (lots to choose from) and DSD modulators feeding Holo DACs, which to my ears reach the best of both worlds. Until I got this going, Yggdrasil A2 and Holo May NOS flipped places depending on source material.

@Jason Stoddard correct me if I missed that, but I haven't seen you talking a bit more about inherently linear amplifiers.

I think that many people still don't get what that means, and why is better than amps based on very high closed-loop gain.

For those curious, the short answer is: "You can either do something poorly and spend a lot of effort fixing it, or you can spend more effort doing it right, and then less effort fixing it".

Slowly lol, physical therapy is working and chances are surgery is not required. Thanks for asking.😜
Great new that it’s coming around and didn’t require surgery. I’ve been down both paths and keep following the PT exercises. The stronger the muscles are around the joint the less issues you will have down the road.

Glad your back in the shop creating!

Ditto. If ear hair presence contributes to better hearing of high frequencies my hearing would be superior to that of a bat. :bat:

:D
Seems to be age related. Just as all the youthful muscle mass in your arms and chest succumbed to gravity and ended up in your belly, the hair that used to be on top of your head has fallen down into your ears. And nose.

I got off the fence earlier today, and got a shipping notice. Silver with unison. Will report when it arrives. Damn, there’s a holiday in my way!!!

Yea, Jason nabbed me here too. Got 999 other things to do around the just moved into house.....and instead I run out and buy this Yggy for an incomplete system that probably won't be operational until 2024 and would have probably been perfectly happy with a Bifrost. Shoot, I haven't even upacked my desktop Asgard3 / Ghorn / Q150 rig - in the room I spend 10+ hours a day in.

Obviously, you have misplaced priorities. Tunes first, all else can wait.😄

Where have I been. I just found an audio company in Canada called DUM.
This obviously screams out for a collaboration with our favorite California/Texas company.

I'll let you decide what to call it.

You'll need some proper interconnects to go with that:

Another observation...

In my 2 channel speaker room, I just pulled my listening chair away from the back wall about 6" and the difference is pretty noticeable. It really locked in what I thought was an already solid center stage. Also eliminated a peak in upper mids that while narrow was annoying at times.

TLDR - Never underestimate the value of small changes to one's listening position. It's a game of inches.
