Wouldn't be that hard to add a battery pack for the wall-wart powered gear... just probably not inside the case. <g>

HA!

Have you listened much in NOS mode? I thought that I heard some interesting differences with MiB NOS vs. up-sampled, but I didn't listen long...

Funny that you ask. When I put it in my living room rig, I hadn’t really messed around with settings. It sounded a little weird at first but not bad. Just figured it needed a little break in. After a couple of days I couldn’t help noticing all of the lights on it. Either it came in NOS mode or I inadvertently activated it while sliding it into my tv stand. Apparently I flipped the phase too. I was impressed in that it still sounded good but also a little odd. I think I heard a touch of reverb. Once I realized it, I set it back to normal. Haven’t looked back.

I can’t understand using NOS mode without feeding an upsampled file produced by Audirvana or some competent upsampler. Without that you are listening to a conversion through a very steep low pass filter with artifacts of phase linearity and possible aliased components. To do that is to go back to the early ‘80s to listen to early CD players and then complain about digital sounding. Just my opinion.

Yggy GS owners -- I've read a lot of opinions about the original GS, with some folks saying it was a sleeper "best Yggy" and others saying they preferred the A2 upgrade or other flavors. As someone who never owned an OG A1 but now owns an OG A2 and MIB, both of which I love, am I missing out by not having experienced the "OG OG" of the A1? Trying to decide whether to grab a GS2 while they're available.
I got off the fence earlier today, and got a shipping notice. Silver with unison. Will report when it arrives. Damn, there’s a holiday in my way!!!

Same but mine is in black. Looking forward to comparing to my black Gumby A2.

Yeah, exactly.

But have you listened?

Qobuz via AURALiC -AES/EBU-> MiB -balanced-> Loki Max (bypassed) -SE-> MJ3 -balanced-> HD820s

Listening to Peter Gabriel's New Blood (Special Edition) at 44.1/24. It sounds just incredibly crystal clear, the background is silent, the pacing is perfectly-timed (THIS DAC understands the time domain) - but at the same time, a bit stripped-back. NOS-mode feels a bit more chiseled, and maybe even a bit stark at times. Incredibly listenable. I say, let's leave the math behind for a bit and just listen to the outcomes. My goodness, the piano in "Wallflower" is inside my head. Best piano I've heard with MiB, IMHO. YMMV.

I've already listened to Sara K's "Live in Concert (Are We There Yet?)" 44.1/24 Qobuz, over the speakers, earlier in the evening, using NOS mode. Now I'm re-listening with 'phones, still in NOS mode... such a different presentation!

Just sayin'. My system is limited only by the room its in, right now... thinking about how to fix that, too. <g>

I have 2 Schiit DACs with NOS. I have listened and I pass. I could have tried driving it with upsampled tracks by Audirvana, but why? Mike Moffatt's reconstruction filter is very good, I doubt Audirvana will improve over it.

You mention headphones... maybe with that is different. I rarely listen to those and mine open Joseph Grado original Signature Series HP1000 do not benefit from that.
