All good points! As for the arachnophobia-inducing Tekton speakers, I gave them to my kiddo and replaced them with some Piega Ace 50s. I tried the Tekton, they were okay for a bit, but in person they have the look and finish of a DIY project. My Sonus faber in my main system and even the comparably-priced Piega in my second system are both top-notch fit and finish as well as sound. Helps with the Wife acceptance factor (something that should be added to all audio reviews). I am going to go with the Tyr monoblocks, but if Jason unloads a Schiit tube amp on us two weeks after I buy I will hold my forum-mates responsible LOL.

What I would like to see, but doubt we will, is an SET monoblock or even a stereo amp. Something like Quicksilver has done. I'd like to try my Freya in that combo.

This is awesome, and I have no tubes in the house and I'm ideologically mildly anti-tubular, so +1 for historical accuracy. Tubes are critical enabling technology for electric guitars, the undisputed peak of the so-called western civilization.

I found a deal last evening on a recently serviced Tascam CD-401 MK II (1993) with S/PDIF (RCA type), RCA, and XLR outputs. I can connect via XLR or RCA to the Freya, or S/PDIF to the DAC and see which connection gives me the best sound.

Nice! What's the DAC in that thing?

A Yggy or similar is at the top of my list for the next audio upgrade after the car, not to mention headphones a tier up from my current stable.
