I gotta see what kind of noise floor this thing has before it's a threat to the Mani 2 downstairs. But if it knocks that one off the shelf, then the Mani 1 upstairs is done for.
Well, if it's not a tube phono preamp then maybe it's a SS balanced phono pre-amp. I guess it could be a balanced pop-and-click removal and Dynamic Range Expander for vinyl. Or a phono pre to Unison USB ADC so you can plug your streamer and a TT into URD allowing playback via a Unison USB out to your DAC. (Would this make Schiit URD into a SchiiTTurd?)
Or... maybe something unimaginable and really out there.
Thank you for that link! I tend to avoid the ASR crew with their graph > ears mentality of audio quality assessment but that was a good review from Amir.
So as a headphone unit, it might play well with any upgrades down the road but not so well with my current 'phones... very interesting.
Look closer. At voltages that drive headphones to volume levels that don't leave you with hearing damage, the Kara does very good. Even with low impedance.
How Amir "heard distortion" on the DCA Stealth is unclear. Did it lose bass control? Treble distortion? He then switched to an open back DD and said "all good" You can't get any useful information from his subjective review. Hence the general vitriol around here against his site and reviews.
Kara will drive any headphone you have wonderfully. His graphs and charts don't say otherwise. I drive DCA Stealth with a Folkvanger with excellent results. That has multiple times worse THD than Kara. But, I don't listen over 70-80db continously. Therefore I'm not torturing the amp.
Little over a week ago I asked a question in the dedicated Kara-thread. Unfortunately there was no reaction. I join you now in asking for information about the quality of the Kara as a headphone amp :
I just posted my response in the Schiite Kara Impressions Thread. Sorry, I am a bit of a Klutz with this software (and a lot of others)
and couldn't add a direct connection. see next post

I've been longing for this for a while. Certain carts don't quite put out as much bass as I'd like straight out of the mani2.
Also, if it's not tube, maybe it's a more exotic SS topology like an LCR. Those tend to go for a mint IIRC. Could be fertile ground for Schiit to swoop in and do its disruptive thing!

Why not a crossover, (2 or 3 ways), to insert between Saga and several Rekkrs, or balanced, between Kara and several Gjallarhorn? And so we finally leave aside passive crossovers and go for the best speakers at reasonable prices!
Just say...
