One of the things I like about this thread, it's like watching a TV sitcom.

I've been planning a speaker addition to home desktop setup which provides for both my professional WFH and personal setups. For Rekkr and Gjallarhorn, what type of bookshelf/desktop speakers should I be looking at (specific examples would be very helpful)? I'm confused between active speakers that have built in amplifiers and seem great for desktop/near-field use, and others that have traditional amplification needs with just simple RCA inputs. I have a Jotunheim 1 so Rekkr/Gjallarhorn would slot right into that stack.

A few people are using some I built but I am limited till parts become available again in late June. They are mini radials based on the DecWare design. @Ripper2860 is using them with the Rekkr, and @sam6550a is using them with the Gjallarhorn as best I recall. @KoshNaranek may be using one of the Schiit amps now as well with said speakers.

The Speakers should be at least 88 DB efficient IMHO.

Members here have had great experiences with Klipsch, Elac, KEF Q150, I would add Wharfedale and Paradigm.

From Steve Guttenberg's review, I think the Gjallarhorn is the best choice and it wil of course stack well.

EDIT: Paladin's Radials are damn sexy, if I could fit them into my budget, those and the Gjallarhorn would be my desktop end game.

Just to pull things together, my latest invention: the cardboard BBQ smoker. Recommended for outdoor use only. 🤣

Well it's broken. It was great at first. But now it just crackles and hisses. I can't seem to attach the recording I sent to schiit support. Granted this happened with less than 5 min of sound playing through the amp and seemed to have happened when I was unplugging and replugging all the connections back into it. I made sure to use the toggle switch to shut down the amp before removing or replacing the power cable. I'm stumped as to what happened.

I’m not sure if what I heard was similar to your experience, but after a day of use of the Rekkr, I got some hissing and crackling for a few minutes. I left things running and the noise went away and has not returned in the past week or so of daily use.

+1 for Rekkr. Just for grins, I had hooked up your mini-radials to a Jot2 pre-amp out. It worked in that there was some sound out but Rekkr is *much* better.

If you have the space and budget, go straight for the Gjallarhorn. For a desktop/small room rig, about any reasonable speaker will work, but I can’t think of a better value right now than the 1/2 price KEF Q150 (sale ends 31 March).
I feel the Rekkr needs something easier to drive to be its best. Klipsch specializes in this area and have a couple of suitable models in the 92+ db sensitivity area at reasonable prices.
