I honestly don't really know what a "multibit" DAC is or how it should sound better than the Modi+, but I am curious to read the comparisons. What do Schiit's multibit DACs usually have over the delta-sigma DACs?
Having owned four different revision of the Bifrost, I can say that it is all about the proprietary (Super) MegaComboBurrito Filter used in these devices. For me, the most apparent difference was in how transients are reproduced when comparing it to a level-matched Delta Sigma DAC (Steinberg UR12). It really was a minor difference, and a matter of preference. I do not think I would able to reliably pick out the Bifrost 2 since it is not a matter of it sounding superior in a dramatic fashion. However, when doing quick A/B switching using the same level-matched audio track, there were minor differences in the way certain percussive instruments were reproduced - cymbals and hi-hats, for example.

My wife and I started using the term after we saw this Boyer/Bergman movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036855
About 10-15years later I became aware that the word had entered the vernacular.

Does it still mean what the movie suggested?
i could answer this deliberately incorrectly, but that would be gaslighting!

I am still not sure what it means---but I am 79 years old.

That is with all other things being equal, there are some DS DAC’s that are amazing because of output circuitry IMHO.😁
Absolutely. Not exclusive to multibit but I feel more often than not I'd choose a MB DAC for long-term enjoyment.

A simple version is to make someone question their own beliefs but you are a man of science, and you can back up your beliefs.😁

S'up yo?!

My internet was down for very necessary repairs for 6 hours earlier today (the cable company had to bury the new cable on a nearby road to replace the one that got taken out when the electric company was buying their new cables :smirk_cat: ), and I missed all of the excitement until now. Not just the excitement regarding the new Modi Multibit, which looks cool but I do not need one, but all the other news about what people can hear, or not. Sometimes Schiit attracts flys.

Anyway, Happy Solstice! Happy Mid-Winter's Day to all of us north of the equator, and Happy Mid-Summer's Day to those of you Down Under in any land south of said demarcation. :smiley_cat:

But do you listen only to sine waves? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

For the record, I've never encountered garbled sound or any other defects during the >4 years I've owned my OG Modi Multibit. @Ripper2860, I've used mine mostly with USB and Toslink inputs.
I've never had that issue with mine either. It's always been fed by S/PDIF from EITR though.

I own some but I try to keep an open mind. DAC technology is ever changing.😁

I hope to be deciding on my final DAC before long and there will be a couple Yggdrasil + in the mix, 15 will be given a blind listen, friends will score them as well and often we agree, maybe we will this time.😜
