Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I have the Vali; have not used it for ages but it served its purpose. I need to build one last headphone amp that is prettier than one I gave @bcowen but I have a serious offer I may not be able to turn down.😃

The Cowen Incubus Elegan amp…

That's not entirely correct. There was no GEC 6AS7G in the box. Perhaps just an oversight by your shipping department? I didn't want to complain because, you know, I'm a nice guy and all. 🤣 🤣

I was only borrowing that tube, it belongs to Finnegan. 6B5BF754-F8D9-45CF-ACBF-CE878B1DF332.jpeg

Be thankful for his cardboard box.🤪🤪

I went over your separate reviews on Magni+ and Magni Piety. Unless I missed it but I can't seem to find any direct comparison.

Is it something you'll update later (in the works) or something that you can share here?

Thanks!!!
Correcto!

I have not done any direct comparisons...I am in process and rather than another long wind'd writeup I will do something soon here and in the Magni official thread.
Actually I started doing this comparison this morning. But hauling Christmas decorations down from the attic took priority!

Who can tell me how wide the Tyr is? Trying to plan cables.........
Something to consider is that the Tyr + and - speaker terminals are uncommonly far apart, about 6". Many speaker cables aren't pre-made to split apart that wide. I cut off some of the outer jacket on my Blue Jeans cables to accommodate it.

Well, I'm out. Not going back to lamp cord just for Tyrs. :smirk:

I have extra speaker cables made with Canare 4S11 somewhere unless @golfbravobravo is all set. Bi-wired, locking banana plugs, at least 20 feet long each. I can certainly adjust them for the six inch reach.

let's see, I'm looking forward to this amp either way, but of course having to drop another 50 EUR or so on it in taxes and duties makes it less attractive.

this is my predicament with Modi Multibit 2: it sounds like a great proposition for 300 USD, but by the time it reaches me it will be like 400 EUR, and there are options in that price range, especially used / vintage. I am actually considering snapping a mint iFi Zen DAC Signature V1 from the local classifieds for EUR 190 to drive the Piety.
just to report - indeed, DHL calculated about 60 EUR on top for Piety... oh well...

I already have three tube pre-amps but other than a Vali 2, I have not kept anything that takes those tubes, and trust me I have some quality choices even after giving away part of my collection.

Today I will be working with 12AU7’s as I watch football in my shop.

Why are they playing football in your shop?

Hi all, Schiit fan here. So 11/1 I decided I wanted the Ragnarok 2. I went on the site & double-checked the policy here so I wouldn't have to worry about Black Friday:
https://www.schiit.com/about/about/on-deals

Ok cool, no Black Friday shenanigans I need to worry about, so I pulled the trigger on a Silver JAA Rag 2 $1599.

Arrived 11/4 & loving it. Pairs perfectly with my Bifrost 2. Particularly happy with the new toroidal transformer & XLR hook-up (sounds noticeably better than unbalanced even with fancy RCA cables imo).

So now 11/25, 6 days after my 15-day return policy expired, I get an email about a Black Friday event, and Silver JAA Rag 2 is $1199 Brand New. That's 25% off.

I emailed orders@schiit.com 24hrs ago to see if there was any protection or guarantee for me. I know they're busy but I haven't heard back. To be honest it feels like a gut punch right now, it's not the money itself but just how it went down given the policy. Hope they make it right somehow, even a credit would be cool.
You gush about how happy you are with your Ragnarok 2, but then feel gut-punched by the unexpected sale. You know, just about everyone here has a pile of Schiit for which they paid full price and most consider their equipment a tremendous bargain. My Ragnarok 2 is phenomenal performer that never fails to make me smile.

Why not pick up an equalizer for the Ragnarok or a DAC and headhone amp for your computer? Maybe this isn't something to get upset about, but a great opportunity to pick up something else you had your eye on.

It is an exciting game or I would explain television to you. 😀 I did co-author a book on the subject many moons ago, and yes it was color television.😁

That is a seriously impressive list IMHO.😁
Thanks, but I want to repeat, I didn't see all those guitarists in all their incarnations. Too young for likes of Cream and the Yardbirds, etc. I originally created the list after a discussion with someone who was looking forward to seeing Joe Satriani, and we chatted about guitarists for a bit. When I sent him the list, I figured he may not know who Steve Hackett was without the reference to Genesis, and the list of references grew from there.
