Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Nov 8, 2022 at 5:52 PM Post #102,451 of 149,374
We see, from time to time, complaints about support from Schiit and I want to make a call out for my recent experience.
It has been frustrating to deal with the pops and bangs again. It first looked like the Freya+ was the guilty party and after a few diagnostic back and forth it was sent back. No Fault Found. Then the focus shifted downstream to the Vidar. Again NFF and I was embarrassed enough to offer a Fedex number for shipping. That wasn't taken up and Schiit have shipped the Vidar back priority. If it turns out to be, and it looks like it will, a non-Schiit component that is the problem I shall be doubly embarrassed.

So @Jason Stoddard, you and your guys did good. Thank you.

Tell you what, I'll give you ride in my C8 next time you are in the Triangle :)

Would a solution like this (rear mounted internal switch with front mounted plunger) help with the requests to front mount a power switch?

This from the elekit tu 8550 preamp.

This reflects my experience with Schiit's support.

My theory, at least based on what I regularly see within my own business? Most people who complain about Schiit's support probably approach Schiit with a predetermined set of outcomes they expect to see regardless of what the actual problem is, as well as with a strong sense of entitlement.
If and when they don't get what they have decided to be due, the reaction tends to be an overblown rant somewhere semi-public like a forum in search for like-minded people ready to confirm that they have somehow been wronged.

For each numb nut like that who pops up here or elsewhere, I know that there's at least a few hundred Schiit customers out there who were thrilled with their customer support experience. You just seldom ever hear from them because a positive experience isn't enough motivation to write about it, so they remain silent.

And then there are cases like my most recent Schiit customer support experience, where I contacted them about an issue I'm having with my Jotunheim R.
A seriously annoying clipping issue in the right channel.
There was quite a lot of back and forth between me and at least two different techs, yet it NEVER got resolved!!! 🤬
………because I forgot to follow up months ago. 😬🤦🏻‍♂️

PS: Oh, and you know that he owns a C8 himself, right? 😜

@Jason Stoddard since you're announcing something new I've got a feature request. How about Freya with a subwoofer out and variable high and low pass filters?
Does it count if you just use a sub with RCA in so Freya S -> XLR to monoblock Vidar and same time -> RCA to sub.
Sometimes engineers name things because they are trying to be funny. My company created OEM products for some larger customers named the "BR-549" (the phone number for Junior Samples' used car lot from the old TV show Hee Haw) and the "LHT-500" (LHT stands for "low hanging testicles" and the 500 because the designer drives a restored 1964 Ford Galaxie 500.)
Also colors, we have purple machinery at work because one manager said it wasn't his job to pick the colors of his machine. Best part the statement was given the second machine was to be identical in every aspect.

I imagine whatever's coming down the pipe will be a Schiit surprise.

Hah!!!!! NOW I understand where Schiit got their design cues

They had the power switch on the front but...Yeah. Looked rather priapic, especially when in the "ON" position. "Klaatu barada dikto!" did not get past the sensors and they moved the switch to the rear. So the first ever power switch ReachAround came to be and doubtless inspired millions of young audio types the world over. 'n' Schiit.

A classic, one of my favorite older sci-fi movies along with the original War of the Worlds, and Day of the Triffids. Maybe Invasion of the Body Snatchers as well.😁😁

Sure, that can work. That configuration lets the subwoofer take care of low pass filtering.
However, I'd really like some high pass filtering as well. I doubt this is on Schiit's radar so I'll figure it out over time.
I no longer own a sub but it's something that I plan to get in the next few months. SVS and Rythmik are on the short list.

High pass is great for making an amp and speakers more clear and efficient.

Using high pass on our living room system allows me to get a lot of sound out of relatively small speakers.

I often found using a 40hz high pass on towers made them more focused as well

https://sublimeacoustic.com/products/k231-stereo-3-way-active-crossover

I don’t know if the product above would serve your needs or not. It can be configured as a 2 or 3 way active crossover. The drawback being that the crossover points being adjustable by swapping crossover cards.

I prefer running the mains full range, and augmenting the bass with the sub. I’m a bit of a minimalist, I don’t want any extra circuitry in the signal path going to the mains. Unfortunately, that includes EQ’s. It’s a personal quirk. On the other hand, I have zero qualms about EQing the heck out of the signal going to the sub. I may not be normal, that’s why I’m here! :sunglasses:
