Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Soooo...it's an AVR with point to point wiring? 🤣
You could be going in the right direction. Why is Jason suddenly ranting about the term "AV Receiver"? Perhaps building something that people would put into that category, but it doesn't fit the name? And parts will proliferate when duplicating things for multi channels...

And 1043 divides by 7. Maybe a 7 channel amp?

So I finally have a schematic for the crazy idea product. 1043 parts! And that's without the extra 64 relays and 200+ parts that would take to make it really, really bonkers.

(Oh yeah, and this is assuming the assumptions I made are correct, and it actually works as expected once it's all laid out.)

(And oh yeah, a schematic isn't a PCB layout.)

I am completely nuts.

We'll see if this ever comes to anything.
This should be some 8 track player , Jason

Analog might be crazy.
It’s usually more work to create and to maintain.
But the result is almost always more beautiful and fascinating than the digital alternative.

But then again, I’m just an analog guy in a digital world, so what do I know… 😬
I think I’m in the same boat as you @ArmchairPhilosopher :dt880smile:
Joe Walsh expressed this predicament brilliantly in his lyrics to ‘Analog Man’

Edit: Here are Joe's lyrics:

Welcome to cyberspace, I'm lost in the fog
Everything's digital I'm still analog
When something goes wrong
I don't have a clue
Some ten year old smart a** has to show me what to do
Sign on with high speed you don't have to wait
Sit there for days and vegetate
I access my email, read all my spam, I'm an analog man.
The whole world's living in a digital dream
It's not really there
It's all on the screen
Makes me forget who I am
I'm an analog man
Yeah I'm an analog man in a digital world
I'm gonna get me an analog girl
Who loves me for what I am
I'm an analog man
What's wrong with vinyl, I think it sounds great
L-Ps, forty-fives, seventy-eights but that's just the way I am
I'm an analog man
Turn on the tube, watch until dawn
One hundred channels, nothing is on
Endless commercials, endless commercials, endless commercials
The whole world's glued to the cable TV
It looks so real on the big L-C-D
Murder and violence are rated P-G, too bad for the children
They are what they see
The whole world's living in a digital dream
It's not really there
It's all on the screen
Makes me forget who I am
I'm an analog man
Yeah I'm an analog man in a digital world
I'm gonna get me an analog girl
Who loves me for what I am
I'm an analog man
Yeah I'm an analog man in a digital world

So I finally have a schematic for the crazy idea product
I have been looking at your products and noticed that most of the plastic has had black dye added to it I guess for aesthetic reasons, but one issue with dye in plastic is there is no way to remove it so it makes it completely unrecycleable, so it becomes a case of selling big black bricks of plastic to be burnt into the atmosphere:

Would you consider having wood or undyed plastic as an option? I think you would be ahead of many companies that haven't considered this, but it would be a big selling point as people are starting to get more concerned about stuff like this :)

The emissions from travel it took to report this story were 0kg CO2. The digital emissions from this post are an estimated 1.1g to 2.6g CO2 per page view. Find out more about how we calculated this figure here.

And, oh yeah, for those of you who are maybe worrying, "Sounds very complicated, like some crazy instrumentation-amplifier-type super-high-loop-gain product," relax. This isn't a parts-for-the-sake-of-parts, full-complementary-with-error-correction type deal. This is actually very simple at the core...but it takes a thousand extra parts to keep the simplicity in order.

Yeah. Crazy. You wonder why nobody does analog anymore?
Today they do it in op amps and other building blocks. Sound? What is that!

And there are a lot of relays so switching of...sources...speaker outputs....?
