Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
Mar 21, 2021 at 2:57 PM Post #73,816 of 148,486
Another update: gonna be a crazy year. Tyr (AKA biggus ampius) released to production, as well as Loki Max and Folkvangr (10 tube headphone amp), and another one on the inexpensive end of things, and Urd beta now in production, and a couple other things. Plus next week. And a couple weeks after that.

Buckle. The. ****. Up.

(Standard disclaimers apply: things may be delayed due to my incompetence/supply chain/aliens/more COVIDs/meteors or other end-of-the-world scenarios, whatever.)

Wow, @Jason Stoddard! Can you divulge whether the biggus ampius will have a monoblockius option? Sort of a Monotyr?

Hah, already ordered the zip ties but the Velcro ones are pretty cool. Not that I mind cutting the zip ties; I bought 100 of them and I’ll only need a fraction.
As others have said, the velcro are much better. If you didn't spend much, I'd still probably order veclro and save the zip ties for something else. The danger of zip ties is you can accidentally nick or cut the wires when you go to remove zip ties. There are some zip ties that are reusable with a tab you can press to release them.

Also, if you need to route cables along the bottom of a desk, these come in really handy as well

If I remember correctly, the rumors/talk about biggius ampius was that its going to be mono block only.

I guess the truth will be revealed soon enough.

always cut the ties on the free end near the lock tab (tie forms a teardrop shape with a small airgap to the wires at the junction).

with most long-term head-fiers, the config is always changing, so velcro is the way to go, or 8-ball-end re-usable ties (but limited bundling range)

but how about the DCA low-impedance ~16 ohm planars? not expect it to work with Susvara, of course and its 83dB/mW efficiency.
Yeah I don’t know how it would work with my Aeon Flow RT.

@StimpyWan FYI you might be calling out the wrong "jason" and want to change that (before someone replies to your post and sets it in stone...

@Jason Stoddard how about some pics of the prototypes of the new products which are production released and in fabrication?

That is @paladin79s system of hiding the gems in with the rocks.
Why do I suddenly have this image of @bcowen as Indiana Jones with @Paladin79 as the knight guarding the holy grail, only instead of a chalice @bcowen must choose the "one true tube" ... ?

And I too suddenly am having a real hard time concentrating on anything else, thinking about all the pending goodies.

Hey all, a disclaimer: "released to production" does not necessarily mean "imminent." There's still wait time for PCBs, kits, first articles, and, in most cases, chassis. I decided to share because (a) it's a profound relief to get these things done, (b) they don't really affect any of our current products--all of these are fairly expensive, and (c) I really think we're looking at shipping all these products this year.

But to talk a bit more about "released to production." Further complicating matters is Folkvangr is a new form factor chassis--and it has more challenges than a typical chassis (we're still A-Bing how best to keep the most heat out of the chassis, which involves trade-offs that push the limit of our vendors' deep-drawing abilities.) It's not that it won't work, it's just how to make it work best. Folkvangr dissipates about 110-120W at idle, so keeping this from being a headphone amp/grille combo is important.

And yes, Tyr is a monoblock amplifier. Other details/specs/etc will have to wait, sorry.

Now, back to working on alts for Folkvangr chassis insert to 3D print.

Disclaimer on the disclaimer: "fairly expensive" is still in our terms. As in, everything I mentioned will be 4 figures...but they will all start with "1". So the high end of the high end can go back to snickering in their 30-year Springbank (1996 release.)
