By the way your Google Machine will return hundreds of articles from the Webz concerning FLAC vs ALAC. Those written by reputable people with actual knowledge of how these compression formats work will tell you that they are equivalent in terms of file integrity and sound quality, with the only difference being compression scheme used, and the fact that Apple Computer Inc created one of them for easy integration with their software.
FLAC does not have error correction. It uses MD5 for error detection but has no way to correct errors. I can use a program like PerfectTunes to check ALAC rips against the AccurateRip database. I do use FLAC though for a variety of reasons.
