Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

That sure looks correct, no wonder I couldn't find them... they might be as old as I am!

So we have:
  1. KEF LS50 ($1,200)
  2. Zu Omen ($1,800)
  3. Infinity Modulus ($1000)

But I was expecting crazier speakers than the $9k Soundscape 8's... would anyone consider any of the three we identified better than the Soundscape 8's?

Or was that was Jason's place and Mike might have even crazier speakers?

I'm pretty sure the interview was at Schiit's manufacturing site. So these are the "office" speakers they listen to when at work.

From the Yggy thread, an update on Vidar:

Thats good news that you are making forward progress on the Vidar, I guess that means the time frame of things possibly smoking or making light shows is hopefully in the rear view mirror.

When you say Three pairs of output devices is that actual outputs or engineering speak? If it is actual outputs, Does that mean the Mono output is a completely separate set of posts?

I was thinking "Three pairs of output devices" meant per channel.

Edit: Cross post.
Sorry, I took Output Device = transistor for granted in this situation.

Yep, short speak for "number of output devices per channel." For Vidar, we're using three pairs of TO247-sized outputs.

Toshiba has an app note on a 100W amp design using one pair of these same devices.

Sumo used to use two pairs in our 100W-class amps.

We're using three pairs, because we're shooting for something much more robust than either of those designs--pretty much a requirement as we're not using any active current limiting or other intrusive forms of protection.

Right now (these numbers may change), we're running 243W into 4 ohms at 1% THD, 200W into 4 at 0.005%. That's at 113V line voltage. Ratings will remain at 100/200W into 8/4 ohms.

That's good power performance. I look forward to reading full test results.

Just curious: one selling point of Jotunheim is the entirely new Pivot Point topology. Is Pivot Point suitable for 2-channel? No knock on Vidar: anecdotal reports of Vidar + Freya from RMAF are positive, and Vidar sounds like a really robust amp. But exotic topology is exotic!

Why not? I imagine it just needs to be scaled up to speaker loads... Simply speaking. :)

In this very same thread, Jason said Pivot Point can be used for power amps too, but he also said -I don't remember if it was here or in another forum- that Pivot Point doesn't allow you to make an amp that acts as monoblock. Also, it seems a power amp using that topology ends with a relatively expensive BOM, which as I understand it would lead to a Vidar costing more than USD699.-

I'd love to read comments/corrections about all this, but I guess Jason will wait to post a chapter about Vidar until it officially abandons the prototype status.
