Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

The other option is to hold down and keep down the corresponding key until an inline menu pops up giving you all the options.

Edit: ninjad several times.
Yeah - this method worked for me. Holding down the Option key didn't ... must have been an older version of OSX (or maybe for iOS).

What I love about this thread are two things: 1) I actually learn things here, and 2) how approachable the discussions are. The only trolls who show up are infrequent, usually to just ask Jason something silly like moving the power switch to the front, etc.

My granddaughter at age two when my son told her to put her pants on. By that age she spoke two languages, knew the alphabets of both and had toured the Mediterranean with a month’s stay in Tuscany.
And clearly she was an “out-of-box” creative thinker! There are many ways to put one’s pants on. Clearly she is destined for great things. 😊❤️

It's option + u, and you don't have to hold them down, just press them simultaneously. That should give you the two dots where the cursor is. If you then press either a, o, u, A, O, or U, it'll convert those two dots into ä, ö, ü, Ä, Ö, or Ü respectively.
But only if your keyboard is set to "English (United States)" but not "English (International)" for some reason.

And it's macOS (i.e. OSX) only, iOS has that long-press of a, o, or u, only.

Either way, I'm partial to the option+u thing because its faster and because it's been like this forever. But I think the long-press variant is easier to remember and a whole lot more intuitive, so I think that's the way to go for infrequent users.

That's ridiculous. That switch clearly belongs on the bottom. 🙄

Wish no one ask for the change of power switch up/down orientation.....

My problem is always with the umlauts. This US keyboard doesn't have those characters, or is there a trick to add German letters on a US Mac that I'm not aware of?
I remember the day we (Americans, working in Deutschland) first discovered kartoffelpuffers. We thought we had gone to Heaven. :)
You can do them on an iPhone by pressing and holding a letter key, for example turning an a into an ä.

In Chinese culture, there are three kinds of unfilial piety, the worst one is not having children.

Aren't we fortunate to have children as part of our lives (except when they were teenagers)?
I've found grandchildren as teenagers to be very enjoyable.

That's how he watches TV... it's actually "my spot", but he always "nudges" me out of the way or takes it when I get up... best sound :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
