Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Much as I enjoyed FM radio during the hay days of the 70s and 80s, I have no idea why anyone would own a tuner now days. They just sound like ass. You can get the same station/music streamed that doesn't sound like ass. Nostalgia and all is great, until you have to listen to it.

And I think we need more cat here too. Here is mine when he was a little killer. Now he is a much bigger killer.
Have you listened to a good tuner recently?

Just the convenience of pushing a button and playing. No digital devices to fumble with several menus.

Yep, makes no sense. My computer is always on anyway and anything I want is just a click away. And FM sounds like ass...

We have to disagree. My tuner sounds just as good or better than the local classic station online. I suspect that most radio stations send online a digital version of its FM 15kHz band-limited signal and compresses it to at best 128kbps, on top.

I was excited to get HD Radio in my new car... sounds like ASS compared to proper FM.. actually worse than Spotify

I have a USB with 15,000 songs lowest 340kbs some high res including the Classical someone recommended @christmas time before.... I put in on random and consider it an adventure!

Of course there are. Remember the DCM Time Windows. They were wonderfully time aligned dynamic speakers.
You mean these cardboard & particle board speakers with 2 sets of nasty cheap Phillips drivers angled to create their own early reflection time zones?

Their marketing was very time aligned for hype. Thankfully their harsh, grainy time on the audio timeline ('77-'78) was short.

I had a pair and it was quite good, positioned correctly. It was no hype. I knew the designer and the design produced a very clean point spread function. YMMV.

They were produced way into late ‘80s at least.

MMMV varied very very much... Couldn't hear past the cheap, nasty Phillips drivers. Sorry if I've stepped on your euphonic memory.

How unfortunate. 🤣

So, the trip to Louisville is over, came back with this little lot1000002331.jpg
I'm going up first week of April. Will be sure to look for some of these. Booked for Buffalo Trace tour and hoping to score some Weller / Blanton's as well. Fingers crossed!

Always preferred the Dahlquist DQ-10. They were butt ugly with grills removed but sounded glorious in the right setup. YMMV, of course.

The interesting part, to me as a non-connoisseur of German cuisine, was the few minutes conversation my spouse and the proprietor had about "grilled or boiled?"
Memory fault (maybe)… I think it was Jim Ladd; anyways, I’ve an old cassette I recorded off of KLOS’ interview with him… given when I lived in LA (January to August 1980) it’s likely to have coincided with my seeing the Wall early that year… but the year is definitely 1980
