Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I was dating the judge. And her name wasn't Judy. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Hey do you recall who it was that said cleaning fuses makes audio gear sound better? I swear someone told me that once, the man seemed to be really intelligent.

But make sure it's an old proper copper penny rather than one of those ones with a nickel core to save money!
Yup. NOS penny! :smirk:

Don't have a clue. Was thinking it might have been me, but you ruled that out with the intelligent comment. 🤣

The red meter box is on its way to @Pondoro.

I am cleaning other things out of my shop and would be happy to share things like capacitors and 3.5 mm connectors if anyone has a need PM me. I do not have quantities like Jason might use but I know there are some folks on here like @tincanear and @sam6550a who are highly technical and may have a use. As with most things I do, these are gratis, I will not use them in my lifetime. I probably still have enough parts to build four or five coaster amps if anyone has the desire. One gentleman approached me for relays not long ago.

No expensive fuses are in the mix but I do hope to have a report on them by April 1.
You really need to send some VU meters to the OldToad! He is so eloquent here and asks for so little.

Ok I am reading this in a respectful manner but in this line...."Remember it cannot prove fuses don’t matter,"
Should I read that as fuses do matter once I eliminate the double negative?

One day if we are testing something serious I will have to invite you over and sneak you in.

Do not take the fuse thing too seriously, my group once spent $1500 on a USB cable just to see how it compared to others. It will be a fun one day event with drinks after, we may learn something, or nothing at all. :)

Be well my friend, tomorrow the IU red meter box leaves Indiana, once it crosses the state line you can consider it Ohio State red.
And since I never saw the results, how did that $1,500 USB cable perform? I'm pretty sure I know the result but I wouldn't mind being humored...

Dang I was trying to trick you into admitting it.

I need to get up in the morning and go to work. One day you will learn the feeling.

One day I may do that very thing. In his case I would want to use hardwoods for a cabinet, I am out of the aluminum boxes. I rarely refuse anything asked of me within reason. The exception is someone named Cowen. I gave him an amp and now he wants two lol. I should adopt him so I can tell him to get out of the house and get a job. :L3000:

Those results were never posted.
One young woman could consistently pick out a different sound with it installed but no one rated it higher in SQ. This same lady might be able to say which amp has the different fuse but she has a tough time relating to the other criteria. She can say something is different but has a hard time describing why it is different. She does not know solid silver wire from silver plated copper but can consistently pick those individually from say OCC copper or OFC.

What time do you get up? I'll set my alarm so I can wake up at the same time, think "this sucks," and go back to sleep. 😂

Tomorrow it may be as early as 8 AM, that is after two hours of Finnegan trying to wake me up at six. He did stop knocking lamps off the bedside tables for attention so he is improving. Now I just need to teach him to stop rifling through the the dresser drawers looking for valuables.

hahaha! Though I shouldn't laugh. Our cat does exactly the same thing to my wife's side of the bed. Thankfully (for me) I'm not a light sleeper :)
However her yelling at the cat does get through my consciousness.

We could certainly argue what is subjective and what is not but one gentleman I work with defended his dissertation quite well when he explained how he would go about measuring attitude or cooperation. I consider that far more subjective. To this day he maintains that anything is measurable.

This is not an easy test and the results may be all over the map, but what if many of the opinions align? How subjective is it then? I like to use larger numbers of people as test subjects but there is only so much time I can devote to this. You know the amp type I will be using and should know if it might be capable of covering the audio spectrum with some very revealing tubes. :) @FLTWS knows both the amp and the headphones very well. The test subjects range in age from 24-30, I doubt I could hear what they do on the high end.
Don't forget to include in the test: a session without fuse. You will be surprised how silent and black the back ground is. :)

Once I was given a link, where someone used a really expensive audiophile USB cable to connect a printer to a computer. The site was hilarious - guy waxed poetic in the funniest of ways about how the printouts were the best ever - really funny. I really wish I had bookmarked the link, I cannot find it anymore. But it is interesting. Does it make a difference when connecting a printer? It would be interesting to know what audiophiles think of that - would they believe that given improvements happen when using the cable to connect to their DAC, does that mean improvement has to happen when using to connecting to other devices... like a printer or a USB microscope... same goes for fuses, I guess - what if you put that fuse in your other devices?

I do not believe in the supernatural. Once I was asked to be open about the possibility. I was so sorry, as the person doing that is very dear to me, that I hurt that person's feelings when I stated that given that accepted knowledge we posses about the universe, that I could not be open about that, and that unfortunately I was the wrong person to ask to consider the possibility given that, well, we are nothing but a permutation of matter in a particular moment in time...

Ah well. At least we have Schiit! :D
