My Lokius landed and has been set up... sounds great and does exactly what I want and need it to with exactly the extra band(s) that the Loki+ doesn't have, specifically 120 Hz. Digital EQ isn't an option right now since I'm not using a PC source and the various Android EQ programs are just weird (introducing noise/distortion, have to be turned on/off in specific ways, etc).
Chain is source (LG Quad DAC) --> SE to Lokius --> SE to THX 789 --> line out to A-100.
- Signal passes through fine whether the unit is on or off.
- No perceptible additional noise though I'll test that again later when my house is quiet.
- Sounds the same to me whether I'm plugged directly into the Lokius or the THX 789. Will try some more later when I have time.
- Chassis is, I'm assuming, standard Schiit quality (this is my first POS); switches are very 'thunky' toggles and knobs have good tactile feedback.
- Desktop speakers (Revel M16s) get an immediate cut at 120 Hz and they are now glorious, eliminating that 110 Hz hump that is baked into the tonality. No further adjustments needed there but I might play more because 'science'.
- Going to headphones, the Dan Clark Aeon Closed RTs get a nice boost at 20 Hz, a small nudge at 120 Hz, several Db boost at 2 KHz, and a touch at 6 KHz... a fantastic starting point
- I now need to get a shorter 3.5mm --> RCA cable now but we'll deal with that later.
All in all this was a total luxury diminishing-return purchase for me to address some minor nitpicks in my system and there are zero red flags upon initial use. A few pics below, including one of the nice glow inside. 2 initial thumbs up.
