Let cars, vinyl, whiskey and tubes be your triumvirate! Your triumvirate would be 33% larger than other people’s!Cars, vinyl and whisky are my new triumvirate.
I really do not need tubes to make it a quadrumvirate![]()

There is a YouTube video in the link below that is worth a listen. The sound is not your typical big v8 audio note. Serious increase in the NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness)
But that sound
Some Mad Genius Gave a Corvette Z06 a Flat-Plane Crank V8 and It Sounds Incredible

Yeah, I saw that new Wally Universal. $395? Sheesh. I think the first 'Tractor I bought (for a Rega RB300 arm) was about $75. Worth it, as it was the best available at the time. I have an older version of the Wally VTA gauge...PITA to use, but works quite well to establish a baseline. And I now have a mirrored protractor made by a guy in Japan (I think) that gets the overhang and tangency spot-on, and a Fozgometer for azimuth although you can get the same results almost for free if you have a decent DVM (and a test record with 1 kHz test tones....required either way). Oh, and of course a KAB Speedstrobe for getting your moniker dialed in uber-precisely.I've got a few from over the years, but really only use two of them these days. I have an ancient Dennison Sound Tracktor for rough alignment, and dial it in with a DB Systems DBP-10. If I had tried the DBP-10 sooner, I wouldn't have bothered with the rest. My favorite protractor is the cheapest, go figure!
I see that there's a new Wallytractor available now!

For me, the cable debate ends with pro audio stuff. So like Canare / Mogami etc. Had good luck so far with Worlds Best Cables on Amazon. I may go for an OCC headphone cable or something like that if I'm feeling fancy or I like the look. Generally speaking I'm $100 or less for any cable, preferably half that.I know we've passed this topic by but: I believe in cables enough to prefer a balanced csble with ZMF Atticus (which I no longer own) and silver plated copper for my Trio. I've never heard a difference in my living room system, my theory is room accoustics swamp what differences might be there.
I believe in free enterprise enough to say "more power to you" to vendors and buyers of cables with four digit price tags; and free speach enough to laugh at them both.
Back to Weather Report, currently Night Passage. If only Schiit would make a DAP.

The best sounding V8 I ever owned was in a Maserati Quatroporte. Too bad it was also the least reliable V8 I ever owned. There is a YouTube video in the link below that is worth a listen. The sound is not your typical big v8 audio note. Serious increase in the NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness)

The C8 Z06 will have a flat plane crank.cross plane

I hope they don't EFF it up like Ford did with their DUDU engine that will vibrate the fillings out of your teeth in the upper RPM's... Yeah, they sound awesome but I'll take a cross plane crank over a FPC in the 5.0/5.2 any day. There's a reason the GT500 isn't FPC...The C8 Z06 will have a flat plane crank.

After a week of listening to music through the Yiggy, I wanted to share my impressions
1st off; I grew up listening to Vinyl. My earliest significant audio experience was listening to my father’s “stereo” system consisting of an integrated HH Scott 223 tube integrated amp though some locally made (Vashon Island, Wa State) Jonzer speakers, source by a very scary Garrard “automatic” turntable (the tonearm could rip your hand off if you got in the way….).
Nevertheless I discovered a sweet spot on the floor, and spent hours listening to Beethoven, Sinatra, Miles and (of all things) theatre, including Zero Mostel - Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, West Side Story, etc.
Why mention that? Simple - the Yggdrasil GS has quite simply taken me back to that!
I won’t go into details, but since the early 90’s, after the loss of my vinyl collection, I’ve been 100% digital - eventually settling on Sumo components feeding a pair of Apogee Duetta Signatures. Life rolled on, and I found I found myself far more obsessed with IT and alpine climbing than music.
A few short years ago, I abandoned my Sumo transport and DAC, after hooking up a spare Mac Mini running iTunes. What a revelation. I immediately ripped many CD’s (lossless of course) and began enjoying music again… I should mention that the Apogee’s are very revealing, but also a bit relentless, especially at higher frequencies; feed them crap and they sound like it. A great example of this would be Joe Jackson’s - Night and Day | Target. Percussion on this is amazing, but decoded via DSD it’s unbearably bright over the Apogees.
Skip forward to a Modi (non multibit) - BIG improvement! Enough to let me rediscover many many favorites, especially after going to ROON and re-ripping music collection via dbPoweramp. Still…. Extended listening sessions were still fatiguing; upgrades to a Schiit Freya S and a pair of Vidars were a HUGE help ….
So yeah - Yiggy GS. I let it warm up a couple of days, then connected into my system. After sorting out Roon Core being upset with a new device, I found myself seriously impressed.
Completely gone is the Apogee’s tendencies toward harsh/brittle/glare at higher frequencies. As mentioned before, Joe Jackson’s Night and Day, while still forward has lost all harshness. Percussion leading edge transients are in space - feels organic. Percussion back side now has weight. It is an on-going, FUN exercise re-listening to old favorites - the last time I felt this was a long past serious turntable/arm upgrade including a Denon DL-103…
Detail, separation of instruments/voices/whatever is just amazing to listen to. An analogy: My sister in law is a seriously accomplished cook, on holiday get togethers, we all comment on how she will not let ANY food on her plate touch the adjacent portion. Green beans touching mashed potatoes?? Noooo! Baked beans shmoozing against potato salad? Not on your life!
She’d love a Yggdrasil

Glad to hear I'm not the only one to re-rip my CDs after abandoning (with prejudice) iTunes. dBPoweramp made the process fast & easy.
