Stereophile's Michael Fremer did a comparison a while ago of some platter mats. The consensus was an expensive cork one sounded best. IIRC, it was around $18. So I got one and haven't looked any further.Vinyl playback question.
What's better - a platter mat made of rubber or cork? I see a lot of those two offered as upgrades over felt, prices are similar.

Or no mat at all. It depends on the turntable and what the platter is made of (glass, metal, acrylic, vinyl). It is a tuning/preference choice and there is no straight answer. What's better - a platter mat made of rubber or cork? I see a lot of those two offered as upgrades over felt, prices are similar.
