Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Great work as usual but a little confusing. Where does this leave those of us with OG Yggys who bought them used (not from Schiit), wanted the new USB, chassis, and Forkbeard without spending $2000+??
I sent mine back, full money back, less shipping.

I purchased the new Gungnir 2 for a little under 2K, including shipping and tax.

I'm very satisfied. I have no problem with this being my last DAC.

There's always going to be "bigger and better".

Remember the old ' 80's movie "WarGames"? How to win? Don't play.

Just curious, I'm no FPGA nerd, but I've played around with them. What FPGA is Singular based on? Xilinx? FPGAs are _expensive_ so it seems crazy someone would program one for standalone audio purposes. But alas, variety is the spice of life.

Wow!! So Byggy is a much Bygger deal than just adding Singular!!
"JUST adding Singular" is quite a big deal in itself as far as I understand it. It looks like a completely new approach to the digital design of the DAC.

Byggy is/will be the new TOTL Yggy (New Singular DAC card, new dual 384 USB, new DSP, Forkbeard, etc.), and requires an Yggy+ chassis to hold all that goodness. An original chassis Yggy upgrade to Byggy ($2K) includes the Yggy+ chassis upgrade in the price. ;)
Right. And that's why last night, after several Belgian beers, I decided to just opt-in for a new Bggy. I can move the MiB to my office system, and re-sell my OG A2 for $1,000+ to my buddy Glenn. :)

Good times. I don't want summer to go by quickly, but... c'mon August!

Any chance it will be a streaming DAC? I am tired of USB anything…cables, decrapifiers, etc. I don’t know anything about the tech’s unsuitability for audio, I just know my ears continue to tell me USB decrapifiers work and thus a small fortune of mine is inordinately invested in converting USB to “better” formats like i2s or AES. (Except the Yggy+ chassis which seems to prefer USB.) My purely anecdotal personal experience is that Ethernet is the best format to transmit audio data (no I have not tried Ravenna), and that if the DAC has a well designed and implemented receiver, the conversion internally can sound fantastic (Elac DDP-2 is one example).

Anyway, just thought I’d ask. I realize the software controller for such a device is a whole ‘nother can of terrible worms if you’re going to offer an in-house app, but hey, per Jason’s big FB announcement you’re a software company now, right? (Wink wink nudge nudge)
Jason has said on multiple occasions that streaming is Schiit's Rubicon, the line that they'll never cross, that Schiit will never make a streamer.

Agreed. Adding Singular would have been more than enough but in classic Schiit fashion they over-deliver!! :D

FTFY. :D

** I agree. I do believe that STREAMER really is a line that will never be crossed, but virtually everything else is subject to change.

Considering this myself, have ordered the card but it's tempting to just get a whole new unit!

Updated office gigastack replacing a Ragnarok v1 integrated with new shelving and Schiit gear.
Still a bit of room.
I could do better on wire management, but space is tight.
If I may ask, what feet are you using under the Kara?

I keep bouncing between “options”. My givens:

1. I *love* the idea of PEQ/loudness, etc. (I’d keep volume at 100 at all times, and only do negative digital gain if forced by an EQ or loudness setting, but anticipate minimal). I can get this with Mimir (now), Gugnir2 (in June), or Byggy (August-ish).
2. It seems that one is only getting FB on Yggy’s going forward, if one goes the Byggy route for Yggy, because adding a singular board to my Yggy won’t do it. Not sure if the current Yggy+ chassis ($450?) ads FB, but reading between all the lines I don’t think so…?

Given the above, my “options” vacillate:
1. Get Mimir now and see how I like the PEQ, etc and just how “negative” it might be on Sonic’s versus Yggy to better inform me/my tastes (Incrementlal cost $350/shipping), and/or
2. Sell Yggy A1/OG now, and use the funds to just jump to Gugnir (incremental cost around $700 after selling Yggy), or
3. Do nothing and wait til August, perhaps selling some other hobby gear to build the funds to go the Byggy route when able (incremental cost of $2Kish depending on how long the price points hold since my Yggy isn’t eligible for the pre-order queue, etc. as purchased used.

Currently leaning towards just getting a Mimir so I can begin the “tasting”… it’s also the lowest cost of entry… always a feature.

Anyone had a chance yet to race Mimir against Yggy A1/A2?

I'm in the same boat.
My Mimir is "still on it's way but running late''...Oy...
And, the way I look at it, is that Mimir will be an 'appetizer' towards a future Byggy purchase.
