Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

My favorite chapter. When I bring up some of these things to some enthusiasts, they flip out.
How about fancy/expensive power cords with magical properties? Then what about the cheap house wiring and cr@p buried or hanging from the utility poles? Got to rewire the trip to the power station.

But, but, those mega-buck power cords "filter" the line voltage before it gets to your gear. Like a water filter on your tap.

I am now a fully paid up Gungnirian... quite a leap up from my previous $250 DAC. Together with the LYR 2 I already have, I'm quite 'shocked' by the high quality of music the Gungnir MultiBit produces. I had previously thought that reaching this level of musical enjoyment would remain a mere aspirational bar. My hat off to Messrs Moffat & Stoddard and the team at Schiit for producing equipment that makes this bar more achievable for many more people. Magnifique...Bien merci.

Well done, Charente!  I also read your New Member's post - it was great.  Welcome to Head-Fi - enjoy your time here!

I also own the GMB and find the SQ to be exceptional.

Enjoy your music!

Hey Ladies & Gents.

Do hope all is well :)

Today I finally joined a really Schiit family! A fabulous Jot with the balanced DAC as well. This is a perfect blend for a control centre with my PC needs right now.

Have had excellent service in getting it and wanted to say a massive thank you, so long as it works...!!

Schiit's approach is really refreshing. With that in mind and I am very keen to try out a balanced cable, can anyone suggest a no bull Schiit headphone cable supplier? UK, EU, USA or even RoW. Would be most appreciated.

Cheers :)

It's a good thing that I don't have Schiit in my tap water. Water and Schiit doesn't mix well, sparks will fly.

Nice chapter, helps me in understanding what's real and what's not in the audio world!

Ironic that a company, that has a name that sounds and means crap, having to clear up actual bullschitt and crap like this!

Yes there is a certain irony that you can trust this Schiit.  There have been so many good chapters I am hard-pressed to call this one my favorite or dub it the best, but it was a great read for sure.  Schiit just decrapified a lot of, well, s**t.  I am afraid, however, that those suffering with audiophilia nervosa may not be able to understand.

I also would have liked a section on power cords, interconnects, and especially on how much amplifier power is really needed to drive a set of headphones or a pair of speakers.  It seems to me on the latter there are quite a few posters on the forum who are in some kind of muscle car horsepower race.  Schiit designs pretty powerful amps, surely enough to drive anything I own, but I suspect there are many for whom they are not powerful enough. Jason: can we appeal for a section on how much power is enough?  To be clear I do not mean to imply that there are not times when more power is needed, it's just that a little guidance on when it's needed would be very helpful.

I don't mean to de-rail after Jason's great chapter (!) but I'm still thinking about the Bryston comparison.

What I see from Bryston is a focus on individual components that do one thing the right way, with solid build quality and solid warranty.  I see the same thing from Schiit Audio.

Just wondering...every company has benchmarks.  Perhaps Schiit and Bryston aren't that far apart.

FWIW, my home rig includes Schiit (GMB) and Bryston (BHA-1) components, and I'm well satisfied with the pairing.

Enjoy your music!

For which headphones? I am happy with my balanced cable for HD-650 from Impact Audio Cables. I heard about them from others here on head-fi. Their cables are high quality at a reasonable price (custom made-to-order, 3-4 week delivery time). Balanced on Jotunheim makes a noticeable difference! You can find lower (and higher) price cables if you search Amazon, eBay, and AliExpress.

To be sure the similarities you note are there.  Solid products with good warranties and excellent service to boot.  But where it all ends is the business model.  Bryston does not do direct sales and while Bryston offers quality it does not offer the value Schiit offers.  A good rule of thumb is that a comparable no-nonsense Schiit product probably costs 10-20% of what the Bryston product costs.

*shrug* The Bryson is expensive because it is flexible and built to audiophile quality. Also, built like a tank with a 20 year warranty. Double-also, retains its resale value like crazy.

Doesn't mean it isn't severely overpriced.  Their DACs, for example, at $3500 are a joke at that price point.

Of course, they have those fat dealer margins built into their prices.

If they would sell direct and cut their prices by 50%, it would be more reasonable and I might own more of their gear instead of just a 3BSST I bought used.

It IS a VERY good power amp, but I do think my 40 year old Yamaha B2 sounds better.
