There's some SciFi show where the shape changing alien is called something like MultiForm. That's what I keep thinking when I hear the word.
So, either it's an actual alien in the DAC or alien technology. I'm good either way.
Justin Townes Earle was such a wonderful talent. I hate we’re not going to get any more new music from him, but boy does this outtakes and demo collection sound good on my Schiit.
In a minor case of Don't meet your heros, I had been jonesing for this Deltron 3030 (you'll likely recognize the main rapper from some Gorillaz songs) album for a while and finally found a recent reissue copy at my local on Record Store Day - aside from a JVC K2-remastered CD of Wes Montgomery's awesome Boss Guitar, this was my only RSD purchase. I was excited about it.
Unfortunately, it sounds like ass. Like, big time. Flat, muddy, dull, lifeless... you get the picture. But, clean OGs from 2000 that do sound good are north of $80. And this album is just so damn good that I'm still happy to have it. But it'd probably be a better listen digitally - I might have to seek out a nice early CD release and see how it sounds. Anyway, that's life hunting vinyl, yeah?
The Silmarillion initially is a slog, but worth getting through the initial world building until you get to the tales of Feanor and Morgoth and the march of the Noldor. Then on to the Lay of Lethian and of Turin, it is quite wonderful.

We got a Firestick and dropped the TV channels from our entertainment/internet package. Now saving about 2 grand a year. The TV actually spends more time turned off than before.
Now, as much as I love the LOTR series, the character of Tom Bombadil was a horrendous and steaming pile of nonsense (IMHO), easily skipped over, tossed in there as a sop by the author for his children.
Jason has already said something to the effect that it's proprietary info that won't be completely divulged. But at the very least I suspect it's averaging out the nonlinearities of the r2r dac chips by adding redundant chips per channel. My understanding is that since multibit DAC chips and their discrete counterparts tend to be susceptible to nonlinearities arising from things like resistor tolerance, if you have redundancies you can help compensate, since no two chips are likely to be introducing identical errors on any two corresponding resistors.
That description makes me reflect back on my Stratus computer days (I was product manager for the operating system and layered products - think compilers, network software). Their computers actually ran two identical pairs of CPU’s (e.g. 4 in total) in dual parallel (two dualed boards), with comparator hardware to ensure all 4 were always in lock step; any deviation/failure and one of the board pairs was immediately taken out of service, with a hardware ticket opened up at home/factory mothership to ship a replacement board. Fault-tolerant computing that software didn’t have to be programmed for. Fun times.
But yeah, similar approaches could make a lot of sense.
Yup. The character does nothing to advance the story and I'm glad Jackson omitted him. He's the literary equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard (for me). Or, more accurately, he's a kazoo player doing a random solo in a symphony.

My high speed internet over fiber is from a telephone company (no extra charge to keep phone line) so I changed over to FireSticks years ago. I am a sports fan and movie buff who can still spend plenty of time with music through multiple systems.

I truly wish The Hobbit hadn't taken so long to come to the screen. The project took so long to complete, Guillermo del Toro had to drop out as the director. I would have loved to have seen his take on the book...! I'm sure it would have had a tone much more in keeping with the book. Jackson's Hobbit felt like LOTR's Lite, instead of a fairy tale...!
