Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I don’t know about that. I grew up in the German alps, so I’m not exactly built for hot summers. I’m at the tail end of what has been an above-average warm summer here in the hill country, though, and it was completely fine. Uh, I mean it absolutely sucked. Totally horrible. Utterly unbearable. Hell on Earth. Never suffered as much as I suffered all summer. Come visit, if you must, but don’t move here. It’s totally the worst. Heck, I even bought shorts! 😳
Stop faking it! You moved there from the Central Valley heat and murk, that's all we need to know.

But the whole point of the aeropress is portability. Don’t want to break the glass if I’m making a cup around a campfire…
No, the point of AeroPress is simple and quick high quality brewing. They offer different models for different purposes, including the Go Plus specifically for travel and XL for larger capacity. With the Premium they have a more luxury model for home that isn't all plastic.

Anybody can purchase from the Qobuz download store without a streaming subscription (just need to register a Qobuz account).
Here's the listing for Rostropovich's Shostakovich Symphonies download: https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/0825646417766

Qobuz does have a premium streaming tier called Sublime that includes substantial discounts for download purchases. It easily pays for itself compared to the standard tier if you purchase often.
Downloading.... Drinking and downloading makes this much more difficult.... I think.
Cheers,
Kyle

From what little I know its $1599 Black and $1699 Silver.
Comparing the original Gugnir to G2, IMO is probably like an apples to oranges comparison.
Totally new design? New functions ?
I think the only thing in common will be "they both are dacs"..

The GS2 sale is indeed an attractive offer..
But that "new" thing is better will attract many people, including us...

I will be getting one here and will do one of my "experiences" when it arrives.

May have missed it. Did your son get home? Aren't hearing a lot about the hurricane stuff in Washington state. Everyone okay?

If your super auto folks, I have been for a decade. I recommend Miele , they are expensive, I got the intro model, but one has access to all internals for cleaning. The brew unit and spouts. If you drink dark roasts and lots of coffee, this is a supreme advantage to access, remove, clean components. I like Jura but you don’t have access, one year, it could be a few, it will gum up no matter what cleaning/descaling tablet procedures one does.
Miele frankly rules dishwashers as well.

On the subject of dishwashers, we swapped a crappy Whirlpool for a Bosch, basically the same model as the in laws have. They have had their for 7+ years. So much better designed. Did look at the Miele, but wasn't feeling that rich.

On automatic coffee machines, I had a Gaggia Brera, but cleaning and maintaining the plastic brew head was annoying. Then went with a Breville (AKA Sage) Barista Express. It's not automatic, you still get to dial in your grind and dose for each bean, but it's much easier to clean as it uses a portafilter.

Sometimes simplicity of design makes a product much more livable. Would love to try that Miele tho.

I know it’s costly, and once one understands why, and what advantages they provide, it could be justified. Ie they make the machines that make the machines, if one follows the metaphor. So thus precision and durability. The dishwasher advantage is super quiet. So if your living room near the kitchen like ours, it’s fantastic, whisper stuff.

I stayed in a Marriot serviced apartment last year in Dallas, and it had an (admittedly old) dishwasher. I think it was a Whirlpool.
A Saturn 5 launch would be quieter than that unit.

Before I got old and my metabolism stopped, I used to eat fried apple fritters from small local mom n pop places, the closest thing to fry bread outside a pow wow.
I totally agree. Yeast/glazed doughnuts are like eating slightly firm cotton candy. 🤪 Cake doughnuts for the win. With sprinkles!
I'm with @Ableza here. Thankfully there are no mom n pop apple fritters near me or on my normal travel paths. The best donuts come from such places as well. I love donuts but have no trouble passing Dunken or the other mass market brands.
A fond shout-out to The Donut Hole where my love of donuts started oh so long ago.

Does Germany require you to renounce citizenship when applying in another country?
Yep. The moment you accept another country’s citizenship, you’re automatically losing your German one.
If you want to keep both, you have to file an application with your German consulate general in which you have to make a case for why you should be permitted to keep both and they’ll decide on a case-by-case basis. Among the reasons that tend to be accepted are owning a business with employees in Germany or if you have to care for sick relatives there.
I couldn’t think of a good enough reason, I don’t intend to ever move back, and I wasn’t in the mood to have my fate decided by some faceless clerk on a power trip. So I didn’t file and just let things take it’s natural course.

At least that’s how it was back in 2017 when I got my American citizenship. I think this might have (finally) changed a year or two after I got mine, but I’m not sure. I quite frankly stopped caring about these things once I got naturalized.

But whether it has since changed or not, the entire policy always felt incredibly petty to me. Like if an entire country is pouting at you like a little child and burning your passport out of spite because you left them.

It’s really good to have you here, I enjoy your comments and the cat photos.😺

Well, that's good information. I was going to suggest you look under the cushions of your couch for your lost German citizenship, but no need now.
