That's interesting. Because I was thinking about Freya+. What tubes do you use?I did once use FV to feed my speaker amp, I prefer it over Freya+, but this could be personal.

I tried many different tubes and combos, stock tubes, kenrad black glass, Sylvania bad boys 1952, tungsol mouse ears, melz, etc. I used it to feed my speaker amp (Bryston 4b3) in order to get some tubey sound, but I just couldn't feel it sounded right no matter what I tried. I eventually gave up and went back to my solid state preamp. But this could just be me because I know a lot of ppl here love Freya+.That's interesting. Because I was thinking about Freya+. What tubes do you use?

The types of tubes I tried with success on FV by far are
Without adaptors, all 6dj8 series (6922/E88CC, ECC88 , 7308/E188CC, cca etc), 7dj8, E288CC, PCC88, PCC189
With adaptors, 5670, 231A, all 6sn7 series
For power tubes, I think the best were still the stock tubes came with FV. I bought a whole bundles of Fonton tubes from ebay and matched them by myself, I didn't find any obvious improvement. I also tried 8 matched Siemens E88CC. They sounded pretty sweet and soft, but they went really hot and I got lower volume.
At some point, I do agree that FV is not the best amp for tube rolling at least not for power tubes.
Agree.
I'd done quite a bit of rolling with mine, since I have a bunch of nice 6922s left over from other projects. But the stock tubes (plus the direct replacements) are super quiet and sound superb, certainly in the ballpark of some pretty exotic company. Makes for a duller life for inveterate tuberollers but adds to the value of the OG I think.

I've really enjoyed a pair of NOS GE 6GU7. Best direct replacement tubes I've tried so far.Agree.

Will give them a look. I've run a bunch of Phillips SQ, BBs, Teles and a few others -- have enjoyed the results but keep coming back to stock for their balance of low noise and performance. But thanks for the reccie and will check them out.

lol, my Schiit gears color never matched since I was using Jot 2 and Bifrost 2.I have to admit, the FV and Focal Utopia sound phenomenally good.

Yeah, I'm not OCD about matching gear. I got a great deal on the closeout Yggy OG.
My Folkvangr has a new friend the Mjolnir 3. Been using it since earlier this month.

The Meze Liric and FV make a shockingly great pairing. Impedance multiplier off and low gain. I stuck the Lirics in a drawer because they are good, but not special. Not anymore.
The best way to improve FV is to get Wandla for it. I can drive any headphones on Low Gain: HD650 9:00; super hard to drive Tungsten 3-4:00 still on Low Gain. It's super silent. I even tried S12 - no hum at all.
