Schiit Asgard X (Mini-Mjolnir 3?)

@dasfast Given Jason's restless nature, workaholic tendencies, and how much he's driven to improve his designs, I have no doubt that something will eventually come out as Jotunheim 3. How much it resembles Jotunheim 2 is the real mystery, not whether one will eventually come. That said, I wouldn't hazard a guess as to when: It'll arrive whenever it's ready, whenever that might be; and as @MindBreak said, the only certainly is that it'll be on a Wednesday.

@Nick76 Looking forward to your impressions.

It looks good, the 4.4mm impedance will be a close call on low ohm planars. The 1/4 inch plug has the same power so not a big deal. I liked the Asgard 3, smooth for listening all day without fatigue. Looks so good too.
Doesn't work this way fortunately, planars for the most part have a flat impedance curve and are not affected by higher output impedance like low impedance dynamic drivers are. There will be no change in frequency response in response to the slightly higher output impedance in most cases. As long as there is enough current supplied by the amp, planars will work as intended off both outputs with minimal change in FR.

I just saw this on their website. I am very tempted. It's the first Shiit amp I have seen with a 4.4mm jack. Just wish it had balanced in/out on the back like my Midgard has. Seeing as this is Class A I wonder how it would compare to the Rebel Amp which I have.

If you wait long enough, I am sure some other Rebel Amp owners who scratches the new amp itch will be able to answer it for you.

In my case I am still wondering how close it comes to the Mjolnir 3 with a variety of headphones, yet I know there are a few who will be able to answer that question.

Also the Asgard X and Jot 2 are the same price. I wonder which is the better option?

Sound wise I am not sure, but in the case of power output for more demanding Planar headphones the Jot 2 may still be the better option. Granted unless you are planning on driving an HE6 or Tungsten I don't think you have to worry about that. I am sure once they are out in the wild we will read all types of comparisons to get a better idea of the strengths and weaknesses of the Asgard X.

As a huge X-Men fan, it brings me no pleasure to say that any new "X" branding has been utterly spoiled by elom's obsession with the letter. Doesn't dampen my enjoyment for the new Asgard, just a little internal cringe when I see/hear the new name.

DAC's too...

The Schiitmeet in August is where the first 50 people will hear the Byggy for the first time

Edited: false alarm. There's no such thing unless Jason actually announces one

Has that been announced yet? I looked under Schiitmeets on the Places tab on the Schiit website and didn't see anything listed beyond the earlier March date in Boston.

I must've been hallucinating yesterday that I saw it or it must've been deleted. Take it for now that there's no such thing

In the FAQ for Asgard X:
"I thought you hated 4.4mm outputs.
A lot of people think we like or dislike a lot of things, usually for no reason."

Maybe. But then again:

From October 31, 2017:
No proprietary Sony connectors for us, thank you. We already have the far superior 4-pin XLR.

8 years is a long time...my opinion on audio has changed over like 3 time since then lol
True, and I think the fact that there is a Bluetooth module within the Asgard X in the form of Forkbeard is more shocking than the 4.4mm output. Schiit Audio had said many times in the past that they were not getting into the software business, until they were. Stances change with time regardless of the companies' original view.
