For those interested GearXS has the recertified 8gb Sansa Fuse for $54.99 w free shipping. Mine was v1 for those who want to Rockbox it which is why I paid for a reman unit. They have the 4gb as well and a 30 day return policy if you get a v2.

meh, I'd rather get a used Fuze for $15 less on ebay, while being able to make sure its a V1 by asking the seller to avoid hassle

How many 8GB Fuzes are you finding on ebay for $40? That's definitely not the norm.

40 bucks fuze? i definitely don't see that price very often. I got mine for like 55 which I felt was a great deal esp since it was v1.

dunno, maybe theres ups and downs for the v1 8gb fuze market. When I was looking for mine, I found 4 of them on ebay which ended auction at $35-45
I got one for 40

where can you identify if it is V1 or V2?

you have to check the firmware in the info part of the menu. no way to know from the box or outside of the player.

It says directly V1 or V2? Or you have to identify it by some other number?

settings-system settings-info. top line says version. if it starts with v02 its a version 2.....v01 is a 1. i dont think the other numbers matter as far as rockbox support.
