Im seeing some great prices on refurbished e270s and was wondering if I would be losing any sound quality from my Sansa Express. Any thoughts? This would be my beat around player behind my 80GB ipod.

Thanks,
Todd

The big reason I want to get this E270 is it has 6GB of storage vs. my current 1GB.

I could, but I've found the E270 for $44.95 shipped. It's the rockboxable version also.

If I rockbox it, will it sound better or is it limited by the hardware? I would think that the 260 sounds exactly like the 270.

The E200 v1's (the Rockboxable ones) do not have very good sound quality. I have two RB'd E250's that my kids use, so I can attest to that.

I believe that the SQ of the Express / Fuze / Clip are much better, at least going on other threads I've read.

EDIT: It's a hardware limitation, I believe. Rockbox might make it sound a little better, via the equalizer - but, I've noticed a significant difference between a Rockboxed E200 and my DAP's, using some test files. My DAP's sound much better, to my ears.

As much as I wanted to snag this, I'll wait for something else then. My Express will do for now I guess.

Being the fool that I am, I went ahead and ordered the e270 for $45 from froobi.com. It came today and is charging. I'll get a chance to load some music and take a listen tonight.

Mine sounds terrible and the Rockbox firmware makes it worse.

The stock firmware seems to play back music with distortion, and the Rockbox firmware has no soul.

On top of all that there's the persistent background hiss and the operational noises the player makes when it's reading from flash or updating the display.

I'm here browsing today to find a good sounding replacement for it.

Overall, Im pretty satisfied. I have played with the eq and it sounds pretty good, but in comparison to my ipod its a bit muddy sounding.
