Samsung S8 / S8+ Sound Quality

So I am currently testing out the audio of the above 4 phones , LG G6, Huawei P10 Plus, S8+ and iPhone 7 Plus.

The G6 is the quad dac version which is so good, that it makes listening to all the other 3 feel like a big downgrade.

How's the battery life on that G6? I'm switching from G5 (with B&O module) to S8 due to the poor battery life on the G5. It just doesn't work for me to charge my phone three times a day when using it to listen to music.....

Finally got a few hours to listen last night and for the Snapdragon version, well, it's pretty good. I don't have any complaints about the sound quality, but it could use a lot more power. I'm at like 90% on the slider with my Rhapsodio RDB mk4. But I'm going to try some more sensitive IEMs, like my Noble Django. Those things hiss on every single source I have other than my Gustard A20H, so it will be interesting. I did, however, leave my RSA to 3.5mm adapter at work so I cannot try them until Monday. Or maybe I'll throw another cable on them. Anyway, pretty good impressions so far. Sound is clear, detailed and open and not the muddy no-treble nonsense I heard in the Pixel. This is much closer to my iPhone 7 where the only place the iPhone pulls ahead is in volume. I'm pretty anti-Apple right now, so I'm happy to report the iPhone 7 is outta here.

First few hours impression -- speakers are way better than HTC10, but who uses those anyway. Headphone output not nearly as good as HTC10, at least w/ Andromedas. I'm at ~75% volume compared to ~50% w/ the HTC. Sounds more compressed as well. Using Tidal HiFi. I think I'll live with it though, since the phone is otherwise amazing. I'll certainly miss the HTC10 sound.

How's the hiss and bass with the Andromeda?

Tried the AKG earphones for 10 minutes then put them back in the box where they will stay. Better than most pack-ins but nothing special, had cheap Sony's that sounded nicer. Will be using my S8 Exynos with my Shure SE846's and when doing exercise my older Klipsch X10i. Sounds great with both.

Not noticing any hiss with the SE846's.

Referencing my earlier post above, I've been listening to some soft classical & chill-out type tracks and I'm noticing a fair bit of background hiss with my SE846's. Coming from an S7 it is much more noticeable straight out. This is with Adapt Sound set to excellent. Without Adapt its not as noticeable but then you looses sound quality.

Will be sticking to my Fiio X5III for music with sensitive earphones.

Allow me to disagree here. I'm testing my exynos S8 with MDR-EX1000, Vsonic GR07X and Flare Audio R2S. Turning on adapt sound degrading sound quality on all of them. AS is just an EQ. No wonder you're getting more hiss with it on because there is another sound processor working.

Bear in mind I'm not a fan of EQ and stuff and I like S8's sound more than S7's.

I though Adapt Sound just compensated for your hearing balance and for frequencies you don't hear to good ?  I can hear all the beeps even at 50yo so ends up being maxed. I also never use EQ (knowingly anyway!)

Excellent? Haven't gone through the tones etc yet, but is that the old trick of saying yes to everything?

Oh well, it's over for my ears Just plugged in my DZ9 (1 dynamic and 6BAs). I have sound settings on surround sound and Pro Amp. Wow wow wow!!

Congrats eric! That has been my unexpected reaction to my s7 edge ezynos with adapt sound turned on. It's nice to finally have a phone I don't mind listening straight out of!

Please try this: turn off those setting and try the Adapt Sound feature. What kind of a difference is there for you? There's quite a difference for me, but then again my ears are far from perfect lol.

The G6 battery is much better than the G5. Somewhere around 4.5 hours to 5.5 hours screen on time.

Gav where did you get your g6 Quad dac and does it work on uk 4G signals in the uk Thanks
