In different news, am quite impressed with the stock earphones of the Note 3 / S4 (J5 model)...

Not going to set the world on fire, but could definitely do a lot worse by paying good money... - Definitely passable for a train journey :)

i find it laughable that people are claiming their exynos note3's sound better.  to my knowledge unless something changed, is the exynos version has a yamaha dac.  i haven't followed up on the exynos threads on xda to hear people's opinions of it.

If you want sound stage get the snapdragon.
If you want a bit more detail get the exynos.

now u laugh again?!

What I don't understand at all, guys, is why would anyone need an external DAC or Amp with Note 3? Why even bother? You could buy a decent player starting from Cowon d20 and going all the way up to AK120, depending on your taste and pocket. Wouldn't it make more sense?

Interesting. The Fiio Andes I'm using may be making the sound cleaner, smoother across the mids, perhaps by evening out the treble. But i don't know if its appreciably better than the results i attain from adjusting the PowerAmp or Samsung players.

X2, I find the SQ good enough not to add a portable amp/dac. Of course this is not for serious listening, but for traveling, good enough for me.

Where was your device from? Considering the EU is the only place that had recognised crippling of devices, I find it alarmingly loud (cannot Lauren on full volume, but can manage 14/15;for sorry bursts)

I agree with you.
