I have now been a proud owner of a pair of Sony XB-500s since October, and they have served me diligently. However, within recent months, I have been shifting my focus towards discerning the differences in sound given out by different media players over the same pair of cans. Tonight, I tested my Sony's with a Sansa Clip Zip, a 5th gen iPod Nano, and an iPhone 4.
I must admit, I felt the cans performed best when attached to my iPhone. To me, a plethora of greater detail in the mids and highs became apparent. Guitar solos in certain songs seemed more, shall I say, "sweeping", for lack of a better term. I used all rock/metal tracks, with the EQ preset on each device selected as "rock".
The other two players seem to recess the aforementioned qualities and make the overall space of the tracks feel "smaller".
Am I imagining these differences? What are your thoughts?
