Altho I have a nimh charger is it safe to charge nimh aa in my pcd which far as i can tell was designed to charge nicd.

The instruction manual shows a WM2AA as the rechargeable. I think this is nicad. I did a little test run with nimh and the charge cycle continued until "full" appeared in the display. However these batteries were close to full charge to begin with.

Im just concerned over heat generated in the pcdp(d-fj401) battery compartment during a full charge cycle.

I would not recommend this. There are chargers designed to charge both NiCD and NiMH, but they always have a switch on the top - you have to tell them which type of batteries you're putting in.

Some chargers can autodetect a NiCAD or a NiMH, but the chargers in an older pcdp will not have that capability. A charger designed for NiCAD only can destroy NiMH batteries. Try at your own risk.
