Less than $250

Also, if it looks good that is a plus (vanity lol)

It will be used with the amp and headphones listed below (mostly the grados)

I would look for the refurbished Sony SCD-CE595 CD/SACD 5-disc changer at the online Sony Outlet. There's a sale every week with free shipping....$80.00. Perhaps the best sonic bargain out there.

I am selling a 595 in F/S forum at $95 shipped, but not too many inquiries. I was wondering why, and your thread gives me a possible reason. I went to check sony website and they do not have SACD player listed. Somebody buy my CDP

the Oppo 970HD is a $150 universal player that is getting rave reviews.

NuForce, a Class-D amp maker, is giving them away free with purchases.. they say it almost matches the performance of the Marantz SA11S1, a $3500 player.

a couple of places are modding them, including Reference Audio and Tube Research Labs.

Not to go too far off-topic, but Oppo is a big name in the AVS forums (for all the video / projector crowd) because they make very good DVD upscaling players with DVI out that does better in the Secrets of Home Theater benchmarks than many more expensive players for a reasonable cost.
I hadn't heard about them in the audio space until now.

The Oppo looks interesting- I'll check it out. Thanks, Vic!

I haven't heard the Oppo, but I've been putting a whole lot of hours on the Sony SCD CE-595. It's a great deck and sounds terrific with SACD. The price is right, though I've ended up spending a lot on SACDs. Worth it, though. I love the format and there are plenty of titles to build good collections of classical and jazz.

Take a look at http://www.sa-cd.net for a great database of titles.
