I'm looking for a source for my tube amp and HD800 setup.

SACD and CD sound quality are both important and the budget is <$1K.

I'm thinking of either the new Oppo 103 or the Marantz SA8004.

Any comments or suggestions?   Anyone had a chance to hear both?

You might want to save some money and get a good used OPPO DV-980H.

I would go with the Marantz. They have an excellent reputation for SACD players ... it is a standalone SACD/CD player, with direct DSD to analog, and very highly regarded in the reviews. Happy listening!

The Marantz is dedicated player where the Oppo is a Blu-Ray/DVD player.  I would narrow it down to which is it you wish to do. If you find yourself in need of an excellent quality video player, then the Oppo is a good choice.  If not, then the Marantz is highly regarded and will serve you well.

The Oppos play DVD-Audio; Sonys don't.  Does the Marantz?

BTW--the upline/ up in time--Oppo BDP-83SE (used only now), BDP-95 and BDP-105 are of audiophile quality--A+ rated in that category.
