I saw a pair of Sennheiser HD800s for sale on ebay, which is marked HD800S on the top of the metal head band. I am a bit skeptical because I thought the HD800S are amarked HD800 without an S on the head band.

I have searched the sales thread on this forum. While most pairs of HD800S are marked HD800 without an S on the head band, I do find two pairs marked HD800S with an S.

So, owners of HD800S, could you tell how is your pair marked and possibly also what is your SN number?

Thanks.

Newer ones, maybe starting 7-12 months ago have different engraving with a smaller font and say HD800S. Here is a picture of what it looks like now.

Didn't the black color give you a clue? It would've been obvious if it was painted vs a factory finish.

He was confused because they originally engraved the headbands of the HD800S with "HD800", then saw one that was marked "HD800S" and wondered if it was legitimate. It's easy to make black plastic.

If you want a blob - yeah. A $1500 presentable copy of the HD800s … not so much.

To be fair, the Hd800 can easily be duplicated and counterfeit for a good chumps! It is all good that people take precautions. This is the first time I see an “S” on the band as mine is also 800S but not this letter.

I am glad that you clarified this though.

What I meant was that it's easier to color match black plastic. Black hides natural material variation and isn't as sensitive to let-down ratio.
