Everybody knows about the Beyer DT880 pleather/leather pads making their RP21's sound better and feel more comfortable, but I was wondering if anybody has tried and preferred the DT880 velour pads? I like my RP21's and I do think the pleather pads help tighten up the bass, but I'm wondering if velour will make it even more "accurate" without robbing the sound sig of bass altogether.

I tried a pair of Beyer's velour pads on my RP-21s awhile ago and it totally destroyed the sound sig. It was quite remarkable actually. I don't think I've heard pads make that much of an impact on sound sig before. And the impact was all negative.

Keep in mind that there are in fact two different models of velour pads on the major beyers.

DT990 Pro, DT880, DT880M, DT880 pro, DT811, DT911, DT931, and DT531 use #926.679.

DT511, DT770, DT770 PRO, DT801, DT831, and DT901 use #426.660

The 770-style pads have stiffer foam in them than the 990-style pads, and thus hold the driver further away from your ear.

You might have better results with the 770-style than the 990-style. Even though they look exactly the same.
