I just got back from my dentist yesterday,
this is my second visit.

The first visit was about 2 hours under a flurry of shots to my gums drilling and tearing up the nerve pulp in my tooth.

it was alright aside from the fact I had to be injected with shots because I kept feeling the pain.

through out the week I had to chew on the left side of my mouth and brush very carefully though painfully.

yesterday, I got to sit under the drill and pulp tearing for 4 hours,

this was about 5 times more painful afterwards, in which I couldnt open or close my mouth for the entire day.

I have one more visit to go hopefully to get the fillings

the dentist visits are not something I look forward to. Im better today, nowhere as bad as yesterday, yesterday I could feel pain shoot right into my lower jaw when Id accidentally put any pressure on the tooth from closing my mouth.

I will go under the drill hopefully only one more time next week and be done with it. Its one of my back tooth, with four roots and all 4 roots had to be drilled and pulp aka nerve pain of death, shredded.

dang, yesterday was pretty painful, my entire body felt like it was zapped of energy and weak from the pain.

Sounds less painful to not get the root canal at all and leave it be!!!!!

You know... with all the horror stories that people used to tell me about getting root canals, I found that it wasn't as bad as I expected. But that could be because I went in with too large of expectations.

Was that your experience?

they use these tiny files to file the nerve out..... not fun. And a $902 bill. not to mention they said i should get a cap which is about another $1000. my teeth and my wallet are hurting just thinking about it.

That's a lot of money that could have been used to purchase gear....

I feel for you. My wife is going thru a very painfurl experience.

First, she went to our regular dentist who did two root canals at the same time. Infection set in and she had to be sent to an specialist (endodontics) who went in a second time after first puttin her on antibiotics for two weeks prior and then two weeks after. At the time the specialist told her it was due to a poor 1st job and that when you go in a 2nd time it does not always work.

She was told that if it does not work they have to go in a third time and would cut the gums and scrape/clean. Guess what? she has an appointment on 3/30.

I hope you fare better, good luck.

Ah...Endo and gutta percha... I work for a dentist so I see this type of stuff around once a week, people really need to take better care of their teeth, this type of stuff is painful and hurts your wallet to boot

I would have brushed so much better, had I known the torture of a root canal. I've had one and I hope I never have another. Never had much of a problem with standard cavities and fillings, but a root canal is a whole different beast for me. I'm glad you past the bad part. Getting the filling, or a crown fitted isn't bad.

I just realized you have one more to go. I hope it goes well. I had a bit more to this story, but better left for a later time.

I've had three root canals, and also lots of drilling. The only pain during these procedures was during the injections, and this pain was only slight, and short in duration. Also, no pain after the procedures. Perhaps you should consider changing your dentist. As for costs, these procedures do cost a bundle.

first time Ive ever had a root canal.
today, its not throbbing pain, but it hurts if pressure is applied to the tooth. Today I was eating and accidentally bit down too hard and it hurt really bad.

no happy pills

, accept some antibiotics the first week.

should I ask for some happy pills, next visit?

considering I dont have dental insurance, I had to drain my savings.
I hope its not too much more for the final visit.

i had my first root canal a few weeks ago and damn...thats easily the most violent thing my body might ever feel. i had to get one because a filling fell out undetected and the entire molar (#19) was raped by decay in a matter of months.

sorry to hear about your painful experience. the doc had to give me 4 or 5 extra shots of drug because i wasn't feeling numb enough. needless to say, i didn't feel anything for the next 5 hours the left jaw region and constant drooling ensued. i also bit off this hugeass piece of my inner cheek without realizing it. he also gave me a perscription for vicodine, but i never used it since i felt no pain afterwards.

you got vicodine? I was told to use tylenol
mad.gif

extra strength tylenol didnt help me one bit.

same here, my filling came out, and I didnt think much of it. I was working like 50 hour weeks and going to classes at the same time, so I never had time to go get it fixed.

yea I had to have alot of shots, the worst part was the procedure took like 4 hours and the shots only last about 2-3 hours.

towards the end I started feeling it, my whole head was aching, but I got used to it.

today is not that bad though, as long as I dont bite down, its fine.
