Lots of ‘touching’ of the data going on there. I prefer mine as clean as possible between the file and the DAC

I still don’t totally understand what Roon is or does. I tried to watch a few videos on YouTube to understand it better but I feel like without actually using it hands on I’m not totally understanding the benefits it offers. If If If I’m primarily using an iPhone as a source what would be the advantages of using Roon over just using Apple Music on the highest lossless quality settings? Can Roon even access my Apple Music account because all of my music is on there?

For reference or context if it helps I am mostly using an iPhone into a mojo 2 into a HE1000SE. Sometimes I will use a wa7 tube amp instead of the mojo.

I am considering adding a poly to the mojo which supports Roon I read which is kinda what prompted this question. If I had a poly is there much of an advantage to using roon over just using Apple Music with airplay?

Also I’ve read that roon has preset EQs for different headphones. Is that super good? Like worth the price of Roon alone good? The mojo 2 has a modest 4 band EQ to bump up the bass and pull back the treble a hair built in but I’m sure it’s no where near as good as the Roon EQ.
I'm still not sure..
If I have no CD collection, no Vinyl, no tapes, no hard drive w stored/downloaded music, Is it wise to have Roon at all?
If I only stream, am I wasting the Roon benefits available?
I think I should get a high end streamer instead but I, not sure

If you use Qobuz or Tidal or other streaming apps, Roon can be an upgrade for it, because of its features, that has been explained in this thread.

I you dont use streaming services and you dont have oen music, i dont see Roon is useful.

There are some nice features, but only for people who need them, like me, for example. I’m using multiroom playback, EQ + DSP and it’s also useful when I want to test differences between sources, cables etc.

In my main listening room, I have to sit slightly closer to one speaker. You may not believe how crucial is to set some milliseconds delay on closer channel to get soundstage right.

I'm not a tech type. Was slow to get into streaming (analog rules!), but when I did, I subscribed to Qobuz. Roon opens up a world of possibilities that i never could have envisioned. Beyond its overall convene, the information on bands and similar bands right at your fingertips while listening is really special (especially with a single malt in hand).

Although I only stream (Qobuz), but after a month trial period I went for the lifetime subscription and never had any regrets. Most relevant features: 1) organizing all favorite music, 2) providing relevant info incl. links, 3) (visibly) managing audio quality / flow, but not the least important is the ease of use of all equipment. I manage my DAP via my phone, my Naim streamer via my iPad, manage airplay to my TV sets and AVR's. Ia so found lots of new interesting music via Roon, more then in the past 10 years before tha. (Yes, I'm a fan..)

Hi guys. I’m not very good with programing and computers in general, but after a couple of years using Qobuz on my laptop I wonder if I’m doing the very best I could do to have the best quality of sound???
The laptop is an LG gram from 2022 I think and my DAC is a Schiit Bifrost 2/64.
I’m using WASAPI Exclusive mode. Is that the best choice for the Roon/Bifrost combo?
Thanks in advance guys.

I had tried Roon about a year ago since it was the only way I could find to play music through multiple DACs at once for A/B testing via the “group” feature, but at the time I didn’t really “get” the appeal otherwise (or it just felt like overkill for my needs). At that point, my local FLAC connection was fairly small and I wasn’t yet using Qobuz at all.

Fast forward to today, where I'm spending a lot more time using Qobuz for streaming and have a modest but growing local library downloaded from Bandcamp. I'd gotten frustrated with the WiiM app's inability to queue an entire folder of albums (which I store in separate sub-folders), so in my research I came back to Roon. All I can say is wow. The seamless integration of local albums with Qobuz favorites, the search and bookmarking capability, the comprehensive hardware control, the incredibly polished UI, the additional artwork and photos, the app integration...it's truly a phenomenal experience in so many ways. Even browsing Qobuz through Roon seems more enjoyable than through the native app.

I can easily see why it's so popular in audio circles now...I feel like it's one of the best kept secrets (hiding in plain site, no less) of this hobby!
