I realize you get what you pay for, but unfortunately, I just lack money in every conceivable way.

My main (and only) headphones right now is a pair of the Sony MDRZX100's.  http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDRZX100-BLK-Series-Headphones/dp/B004WODP20/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1353641064&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=Sony+mdr+zx100

I like them well enough, but they can get a bit uncomfortable after a while.  As a musician and avid listener, I feel it's time to upgrade.  Of course, my idea of "upgrading" is your "entry level" in all likelihood.  These Sony's cost about $15, and so I figured somewhere around $40-60 is about the absolute highest I can go.  I figure I spend so much time listening to, recording, and enjoying music that I should spend a bit more on it and really experience it in a more powerful sense.

I'm looking for something dynamic that is good for listening while recording, listening to music (just about every genre), and comfortable.

I was looking at the Audio-Technica ATH-M30's, as they seemed like a good starting point, and I can't say enough good things about my AT turntable.

Of course, any advice and suggestion is welcome.  Please feel free to laugh and joke at my expense.

Thank you!

Monoprice 8323...
Amazing headphones for the price

Lots of reviews here (can't link from phone.)
They also made the cnet top 10 headphones list.
I have a pair and they are great.

Hm... I'll definitely look into them.  I see a lot of folks complained about the lack of comfort, but I can't see that being a problem for me, as my Sony headphones have no padding whatsoever.
