I've been using my 5th gen 60 GB rockbox'd iPod for almost a year now. I'm using Denon AH 1001s and currently looking for a place to buy cheap Image S4s in Canada.

I'm wondering if it's time for me to change a mp3 player?
Which is better in terms of sound quality?
A rockbox'd iPod with an amp or a Zune HD with an Amp?

Speaking of amps, where could I purchase them?

Rockboxing gives you access to a custom equalizer that lets you tweak the sound more-so than the iPod presets. You can also drag and drop if you don't like using the iTunes software.

hold on to your rockboxed 5G ipod my friend. Personally I feel there are no good high capacity portable players in market that out-do a rockboxed iPod. I just bought a refurbished 5.5G ipod 80GB.

If capacity is not an issue, then you can go with sansa fuze or Cowon S9. But the improvement over your current iPod would only be marginal. Better get a decent amp. I have never owned one so cannot comment on any.

good luck.
