I just realized that Rockbox 3.4 came out already, but I just had a chance to upgrade yesterday. I updated my Gigabeat F40 to 3.4 using the utility, and it went fine. However, it seems that it has had many performance drawbacks compared to 3.3. Browsing my database, playing songs, and the touchpad seem much slower, since I frequently see flashing boxes for a millisecond when browsing my database, especially during/after audio playback. I am used to the smooth transition, and not having something flash. It also seems that the touchpad is not as responsive. I don't know if this is placebo or not, but it sure is annoying. Perhaps I just didn't notice them in 3.3? Can anyone else update their gigabeat to see if this happens?

I'll grab it now and let you know how it goes with my 5G iPod.

I hadn't upgraded my Gigbeat F40 yet either, but just did so (manual install of 3.4, not the Rockbox utility - I just copied over the old version). I also wiped my database and refreshed.

So far, no issues at all - seems just as responsive and none of the flashing you mentioned. It is a 120GB ZIF mod, but I don't think that would be a factor.

EDIT: Perhaps it's your theme? Mine is the Zune theme, but I've messed around with the settings over time so it's pretty unique, at this point. Changing your theme could be an easy test, just to eliminate it as a factor.

I should go ahead and try a manual upgrade. BTW, which theme are you using? Can you show me a link? That sounds pretty interesting.

Themes link: Rockbox Themes - Themes for Toshiba Gigabeat F/X

I'm using the "baa" (Big Album Art) theme, but made some alterations in the background and fonts. It was based on a Zune-eque theme.
