ROCK JAW Testers

I noticed the Rock Jaw products in late 2014 and have read some reviews about Alfa Genus and Acero. I have also read some of the postings on this thread as well as the Acero Review thread.
http://www.head-fi.org/t/724225/review-rock-jaw-acero-a-closed-headphone-with-a-rather-airy-sound

Baes on all the postings and discussions, I thought Rock Jaw really have some solid products. I am not really an IEM kind of person. So Acero caught my attention.

I just received the Acero that I ordered from Amazon. The delivery only took two days (with Prime). However, I was very disappointed with the product. Based on the packaging I guess the Acero I received came from the early production runs (photo below). The box was not sealed. The headphones felt flimsy and the fit was uncomfortable. The ear cups won't stay at the adjusted position and they don't extend long enough for people with larger hat size. The paint job on the ear cups also looked cheap and one of the ear cups was dusty. I only listened to them for about 10 minutes and put them back in the box. I was not impressed by the sound. The only thing worth mentioning was that they didn't sound closed in (compared to M-50 from memory).

I will be returning them to Amazon.

PS - I did send PM to Bob, but have not got any reply.

Hi

I did see your PM you sent 18hours ago, I know I am usually quicker at responding but we have been very busy and I've been ill so finishing earlier than usual.

You indeed have an old version and although to many they may feel flimsy we have never had a pair returned for breakage.

These are a like or loath product it would seem, we have more who like than dislike, but that's just personal taste.

The Acero is undergoing a complete overhaul from top to bottom to bring them in line with the rest of the range and will be in stark contrast to the current offering.

This won't be complete until the end of this month but will be worth the very long wait.

Cheers
Bob

First week back blues? Thats what I'm currently suffering from and yes, we will be feeling much better after tomorrow.
I've got a feeling tomorrow is going to be an awful and wetter finish to the first week back. At least I have some IEMs to keep me company. :)

Hydra - http://www.head-fi.org/products/rock-jaw-hydra-v2/reviews/12329

and

Arcana - http://www.head-fi.org/products/rock-jaw-arcana-v2/reviews/12330

reviews are up.  The Arcana is a really nice sounding piece of kit.

Unfortunately there was an issue with my Kommand - so I'm awaiting a replacement, but will work on a review of them when the replacement arrives.  The little I did hear from the Kommand was enough to grab my interest though!

Once I've reviewed the Kommand, I'm thinking of putting together an Australasian tour for the 4 IEMs in RockJaws range (Alfa Genus, Hydra, Arcana and Kommand).  Will advise more on this in another 3 or 4 weeks.

Good reviews Brooko, the new Arcana sounds like it a good step up from the original. The Hydra also sounds interesting but also sounds like it might be too bassy. Look forward to your take on the Kommand.

Great reviews as usual Brooko.
I'm spending this weekend doing some comprehensive listening and note taking with my X1 and X5 and Rockjaw IEMs. I plan to compile my reviews this week, I might 'borrow' some other review formats I've seen.
I find it difficult to write in first person (written too many technical reports), so I find it challenging to add in stories and details as many reviews contain.

Should be up by the end of this week.  Photos are done.  Just waiting for some graphs and then to need pull all my notes together into a usable format.

Been playing with the Hydra2, Arcana2 and kommand for a few days now.

The Hydra2 with the metal housing is impressing my eye more surprisingly but sound wise, I feel more comfortable with Arcana2. The Kommand is been very impressive and I'm glad that RockJaw fix the ultra bright nature of treble filter of A-G and make a much more listenable filters for Kommand.

I'm learning all the time Billson, soon as I was never formally trained in speaker design or acoustic chamber design etc, I've had to learn on the way. Getting much better at it these days :)
