Ideas? Primary use will be listening to rock. Secondary (but not far behind) will be gaming. After that, a little bit of metal. I'm ready to toss my MP3 earbuds when at my dorm. Budget is <$40. I just spend about $10 on the Zalman Zm-Mic1 for gaming (Xoxide), so I'd like to get something nice to compliment them when gaming. I'm torn between Koss PortaPro, Sennheiser HD201, and Sennheiser HD202, as well as a tonne of others <$40.

Thanks in advance!

I picked up the HD201s and the Zm-Mic1 for $28 total. I expect to see them around Wednesday or Thursday. Below budget is good--just means that when I upgrade, more money to be spent.

If you can find the JVC HAS700's for your price, get em. Really lightweight and comfy (for long gaming)
They have great bass, and i found they excel when listening to metal. Rock is just OK though.

You really should just save a little bit more money if you are a fan or rock and metal and get a pair of Grado sr60 (or maybe sr80s?), they sound great unamped too.

Either save up for the Grado SR60/SR80, or nab the Koss KSC75 right now. I personally would choose the KSC75 over the early Grado line-up (60/80/125). Especially for gaming.

agreed! If you like rock and metal, you gotta pick up a pair of Grados. Plus they'll still sound great without an amplifier.

Well I already pulled the trigger on the first round of what surely sounds like a wallet-massacre. Better headphones are on the short-list of future upgrades...

1) More RAM ($20)
2) Better graphics card ($80-120)
3) New mouse ($60-80) (I just bought a Logitech G3, which should be fine for me gaming for quite a while)
4) Better cans ($50-150)
5) New CPU ($80-85)
6) Sound card? ($30-75)

With an entry-level pair like the HD201s, at least I'll have a valid point of reference. I'll see about getting my list taken care of... the Grado SR60 sound excellent.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll keep them in mind in the coming months. I just checked my checking account, and the bills for all my recent purchases are going to keep me from adding anything big to that list.
