I've wondered that too. I think there is a slight cosmetic difference (tuner switch) and it might be constructed a slight bit differently (battery compartment, maybe?)

Don't have an RM-DM5K...

what is the difference between these 2 remotes, someone in the know please share the info as it appears that many people are wondering about this as well. 
 
from what I read in a different thread, the D555 does NOT take RM-DM5K, it has to be RM-DM1K, but other old PCDPs can use DM5K. (could be wrong) 
 
BTW: how about the difference between EBP-360 and EBP-380. these two external battery packs looks identical (from pictures) but D555 manual says do NOT use EBP-380.
