What causes this to happen? On my laptop. I thought it was only a problem when ripping, but it will happen on certain discs when playing straight off the disc sometimes too.

i guess that could be the problem, or at least part of it.

i tried a few of the albums on that list in the wiki link and the first and last songs were randomly troublesome.

that kinda sucks if that's the problem.

You can check to see if there is a firmware updated for the CD/DVD drive. Check the laptop manufacturers web site for possible firmware updates for the CD/DVD drive. You can also try to find out what the manufacturer and model number is for the CD/DVD drive and check that manufacturer's web site.

Run a utility like System Information for Windows to find out what firmware version is on the CD/DVD drive and what the model number is for the drive. In SIW the CD drive info is under Hardware >> Storage Devices.
