OK, so I'm not sure that this thread is in the correct forum, but it's iPod/Apple/Portable linked and I know a lot of you guys know your onions.

I'm burning my CD collection into iTunes using LOSSLESS format.

Upon playback, certain CD's crackle hiss and pop yet others do not.... no changes have been made to any settings, yet some CD's burn perfectly and others are a total waste of time.

I even bought a USB CD/DVD optical rewriter cos I thought my CD drive had packed up. It still happens with the new drive.

Regardless of listening via PC headphone jack or E7 Dac... same issue. Crappy sounding import on SOME CD's and not others.

It's driving me bonkers.

Ripping to lossless has nothing to do with crackles/pops, etc. The culprit is most likely your ripping software. Are you using iTunes? iTunes is not known for being particularly good in that regard.

EAC is considered the best software for the job - http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

If you are a Mac user, you'd want to try xAct - http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/14246/xact

Yes I'm using iTunes.

And not convinced it's the ripping software as I'm also experiencing the issue on basic playback, but again only on some CDs and not others.

Still thanks for the reply and I'll give exactaudio a pop anyway especially if it is considered to be better than iTunes.
