so i started to notice that my right ear hurts after i bought beats pro. and i sold it after that. now it still hurts no matter what headphones i use which is sennheiser amperior. my right ear doesn't hurt from speakers only from headphones. i think i will just not listen for headphones that much and for a while. lets discuss this. cheers

Go and see a medic!

i'm a medic myself, studied medicine in university. i don't need a doctor. they will just say don't worry about it or give me ointments that don't do anything for the placebo effect. lol and say not to use your headphones.

are we talking external or internal of your ear?
I find when I wear on ear headphones (like dre beats) the external parts of my ears hurt but thats only cos they compress them, it's like pinching your self
so I just use headphone that go around my ear and don't touch my ears

it's in the inside of ear. past the ear drum. i guess my ears are sensitive to headphones. i will buy one pair of iem and if my ears are still sensitive to them i will give a rest to this hobby. or may be get external good sounding speaker cause i can listen to speakers alright.

also i get pops in my right ear sometimes. it's nothing much annoying but it's related to pain ear irritation. headphones make my ears hurt i suppose.

I'm thinking you might have a build up of ear wax
I'd suggest seeing a doctor they either have a machine they use to clear it up or they know someone who does.
But given that you said you don't fancy seeing a doctor you can buy some products from a chemist and do it your self, I don't know what products are available where you live but your chemist will

i have que tips i clean my ears frequently. yesterdeay i did. how can ear wax can cause pain in the inside of ear if ear wax is on the outside of ear. unless infection puss is building up inside of ear but thats puss not ear wax. today it's less painful and i haven't been using headphones yesterday. i have the equipment to look in ear at home, may be i ask my dad to look in my ear and see if it's inflamed or something although i don't think so although could be. cheers

by medic you mean nurse, doctors, or machine operative?

my right ear hurts from IEM too. rolled off treble (dark) headphones, my right ear doesn't hurt at all. i hope it helps you to know that there are other people that experience the same experience

Actually my ENT advised me to never use Q-tips* - that's after two incidents of him using his tiny vacuum cleaner to remove what I pushed in. The problem with using Q-tips on oneself is that you can't see what you're doing, so you indiscriminately scrape around in there and push it in, instead of scooping any wax outwards. What he suggests is just use a damn, thin cloth (like an old handkerchief) and wipe whatever my pinky can reach on a daily basis to prevent any wax build-up that will need scooping out (but, as in my case, just ends up getting pushed in). Even then I visit him once a year to get that vacuum cleaner and scraper do a more detailed job.

If your Dad's there then just ask him to take a look, if not help clean your ears (and you clean his).

*And no, I don't pay him a cent, so it's not because of profit. His wife was my pediatrician ever since my Mom found out she was pregnant (and now she's the pediatrician to both my godchildren, whose mums gave birth in the hospital she works in) and he has this thing with just continuing it when it comes to his specialization for "free" (we're not total leeches so we bring them Christmas gifts). He's even a godfather to a couple of friends when they got married, and we talk about audio all the time I'm there. He's actually the sort to say it's absolute BS when doctors flat out blame headphones and earphones, save of course for how they affect SPL and noise perception (or maybe he's like that with me and my friend because he knows we're into audio so we'd understand what he's talking about).

i studied medicine which means doctor.

i asked my dad to have a look with my otoscope and he said that the right ear near eardrum was a little red in comparison to my left ear. so i guess it is inflamed. may be i got some kind of infection. i got this bowder that my dad says is anti everything and i put it on que tip and swobbed the right ear. i think a bit of iodine liquid would do similar thing if anyone is interested. sure it will stain the inside of ear, usually it's green or brown in colour but would help with infection. i think a tip to people don't buy used in ear earphones, even if you clean them you just don't know. to be safe only buy new. cause at this point i don't know if it's because of that or something else. thanks

If it only hurts when you're listening to music on headphones, then it's a sign you're damaging for hearing. I did that about 2 years after joining head-fi from excessive use of headphones. If it's a wincing kind of pain, like sharp little stabbing, you're on the cusp (or in the midst) of damanging the cillia of your inner ear. They are becoming damaged from over stimulation. The next stage will be serious tinnitus. The only cure for you now is to take about 3 to six months off from headphones to let them rest and repair. Then try to gingerly work your way back into them with short listening periods. I know this from a decade of experience and consulting hearing specialists. It isn't anything any external medicine or cleaning will fix. It's the inner ear saying - I'm being damaged. And if you develop tinnitus, you may or may not ever recover from it. I luckily recovered by staying away from headphone for two years. It wasn't easy. It's a fun hobby. But I can now use headphone, but the moment I feel a stab of pain. I lay off them for a couple days. And yes, I do still have mild tinitus.

i don't know if other people's ears start from right ear but if it is then i've no idea why. and ye i think bassier headphones with less higher frequncies is better. i find beats tour 2 which lack in higher frequencies are more easy to listen.

my right ear is better than yesterday but still feel it is uncomfortable.
