Review: Questyle Audio QP1R - With Multiple Headphone and IEM Pairings
Aug 18, 2016 at 2:49 PM Post #2,476 of 7,140
I use 200gb cards as well. They are both pretty much filled and I have almost half of the internal memory used as well .. folders #,A-Z on each card and for internal memory ....
I tried to balance things on both cards ... really favorite stuff on card 1 .. and the remainder on card 2 ... internal  memory has  Beatles, Led Zepplin, AC/DC ...and a few others.

I'm just waiting for the 256GB cards .. with these my whole library will be able to fit on to just the two cards ..

BTW: Any thoughts on the iBasso DX200 coming out? I wonder if it will come close to the QP1R??

How do you guys use the separated storage space on your device. For example 128gb card - 32gb internal - 128gb card. Do you fill the first one until it's full, and then you step to the next one until it's full. Or do you use them for different genres, etc?
Until now I got a-k artists on card one, l-z artists on card two.
Any experiences/recommendations?

I loaded CD quality files on card 1, and higher rez formats on card 2. It only works I guess because I have all my music's formats memorized.

Not sure if this helps, but if you just press and release the power button it only turns the screen off. You need to press and hold the power button to shut the unit off.[/quote]

Is it normal to hear a click sound at the time the unit turns off??

How bout you guys using the eq settings or not? I like the sound signature most with eq off, but on the other side would love to get a little more low end treat with my pm3's (I know, they aren't true slamming in the bass department). I don't like the 6db drop when switching from eq off to eq on, because this makes comparisons difficult.
I'm unsure how much raising frequencies is helpful. And which one of them, only the lowest, 31, 62? Or better raising them all up to 1k, kind of curve shaped.
Any recommendations?

I'm not using EQ, but can personally see how it can be necessary with the PM-3/QP1R combo.

I would like to see what people use as well with their particular combos, but I would just play around with them to find what suits you. With that said, for fun in Spotify (not a part of the QP1R), I have a custom EQ that is more V-shaped in nature (more raising of frequencies in the lower and higher registers compared to the middle registers, respectively).

Exactly a year ago, I arrived at Canjam London 2015, and before getting into the hall, I was listening to Maurice's preview QP1R! I kind of knew straightaway one would be mine. But unable to order for months in the UK, slight concern over loose volume control and strange lack of playing an Artist's albums via metadata, caused me to wait. Receiving a Mojo also took away the urgency, then just when I decided to purchase a QP1R, UK Brexit caused a £100 price rise!

But Canjam 2016, 10% reduction show offer, and still being the best standalone DAP to my ears, I should be receiving one in a day or two. Finally join you guys, love the gold one :)

PS, Great to meet you again Maurice, wonder if you won last night, sorry couldn't be there. But my wife Barbara took a nice picture Saturday!

Hey Andrew!

Congratulations on the QP1R! Welcome!

Sorry for not replying sooner, I got back yesterday from London to Paris, then to New York, then back home in Southern California. I've been resting, once I got done with my interview hours after I got back.

It was nice seeing you again, and nice picture your wife took!

I'll have pictures of CanJam as well as the CanJam London Ping Pong Showdown in an upcoming impressions post in the near future. As for your question if I won, the answer is currently next to my avatar in desktop mode. :normal_smile :

Hope to see you next year!

Cheers! :beerchug:

Congrats on double Canjam titles! So funny Ethan's panic remark when he saw photo and thought he had missed it :)

Loving QP1R/846/Spinfits, a nice alternative to X5/Mojo/Katana. Can finally leave two iem set-ups with a good synergy, permanently attached.

Thanks! Technically it's currently one CanJam title (one CanJam and one "meet"), but depending on who you talk to (and results) I traded 1st place spots in karting (in my group), but we didn't have a technical 1st of everyone type of race (because the karting place said that the best racers try to take each other's heads off. So true. Haha).

Ethan came up to me asking about your post - I assured him you were kidding. Ethan is no joke at ping pong, and both of us have custom paddles. Usually facing him will result in a loss for most whomever faces him!

Have you tried the Knowles dampers with the SE846 yet? If not, you should give them a try, as you may find a sound that's more satisfying than anything you've heard before from the SE846! Thanks again to csglinux for the damper mentions!

Dampers were a topic I had planned to talk to you about, but got forgotten above other things, its always so hectic at a Canjam. Trying to understand how adding something, rather than subtracting foam or even whole filter assembly, can affect things. But you never know till you try, when I'm next feeling ready to change sound, I must investigate. 846s were way down my pecking order behind ie800s, 1plus2s etc, but knowing the QP1R to be a livelier DAP than others I own, I started with 846s when Questyle arrived rather than those brighter iems. At the moment they have a relationship going on :)

The crazy thing with the Knowles dampers is that they can significantly change the sound of the SE846, much like the 6 different milled valves (filters) of my Torque t096z earphones.  You are effectively getting rid of the plastic inserts, so that already is opening up the sound, and replacing the inserts with a very small damper will help mold the very clear sound that emanates through the SE846's nozzles.  Some color (frequency) dampers weren't to my liking, but the Brown and Red were by far my favorites - very nice to have customization, for sure.

Did you listen to the FLC Celeste? Pretty good from what I heard (better sounding to me than their 8S).

I didn't get to FLC, also missed Ethers that people are raving about. It's a balancing act, between socialising and head-down listening, especially when you can only make one day. Top priorities were renewing some friendships, some new DAPs on my list and more so, new iems I hadn't heard. I have bought nothing for previous 12 months, but went home (or ordered) with my top rated DAP and iem. The QP1R and the Noble Katana!

Yeah, one day is definitely not enough to listen to a lot of equipment, especially when socializing!  I had the last Orpheus HE-1 spot, actually after the event was over!  It was fun to A/B the HE-1 and MSB, and I would say the MSB to me sounds better to my ears than the HE-1.

Good on you to purchase the QP1R, exemplary decision, indeed!

Agree entirely, the HE-1, like I found the DAVE were 'very nice'. But the MSB looked quality, as it should, and was the most natural digital sound I've ever heard. But they did have a media server, another 100K I think behind the curtains!!
Most impressive demo was the Realizer, I went in wondering why I was there, and walked away astounded at sounds being produced behind me. For any film buff, an amazing product, not needed for 2 channel music though. Did you catch it?

I have Hugo and Mojo for stacking and pure hifi sounds in lounge and in bed!  I wanted a standalone DAP that excites. The only DAP that came close to the QP1R for me (and for a 2nd year), was the Flask! But it wouldn't work with my, or a few others, SD cards so much firmware changes still needed I reckon.
