Review: Questyle Audio QP1R - With Multiple Headphone and IEM Pairings

Sep 15, 2016 at 5:34 PM Post #2,956 of 7,142
Anyone know about connecting QP1R as source with powered speakers with no need for mac and/or pc in the mix? Not be good as my sold system of Devialet 200, Melco source and audiophile speakers - but so what. Less expense and space requirements and likely good enough for this old dog. Using QP1R with cans when seeking private listening, using QP1R with powered speakers for listening with others. I could dig that (:
That is no problem at all connecting to powered speaker just get a 1/8 in to stereo RCA cable and your done. The QP1R has fixed or variable output so you can use the volume knob on the unit to adjust volume or on the speakers. I hook it up to my AVR all the time .

This sounds nice. How about the open one? The new one is called flow? Is this also such an perfect pairing? When I already have an closed one, pm3, would you suggest the open flow?
I didn't listen to the Flows out of the QP1R just out of my Yggy and Liquid Carbon. The C Flows at the meet had a problem and they didn't sound that good something to do with dampening material being the wrong size. The open flows is what I'm thinking of upgrading my Ether C's into. I wish I would have tried them on the QP1R though but I'm sure they would be just as good.

DL'd the latest FW and USB Driver yesterday. Everything installed and updated without issue...no secret handshake or backdoor knock and whisper needed. I haven't done any listening since...but just wanted to post that the old guy (54) was able to do it without any instructions.

This sounds even more nice to me..
The open flow could be it for me.
Do you maybe also have impressions on QP1R with Elear or Utopia?

I didn't ask if there was a adapter to try on the Focals. The Utopias were hooked up to a Ampsandsound Kenzie that I'm looking to get pretty soon so I wasn't thinking about it. The power went out before I could listen to the Elear's and didn't think about running them from the QP1R dumb me. The open flows are great the Utopias are a bit better but for me not worth the price difference.

   Thank you. Now need to find small powered speakers which will marry nicely with the QP1R and I'm good to go (;
You are on your own there have no experience on that. There are a lot to choose from KRK is well regarded.

soundstage of i5 is better

and everything else is falling behind. Similarly, i also find staging of my dpx1 and opus is wider than qp1r...

Funny to see you prefer the (much) cheaper I5 over the QP1R. Looking into the i5 as well, what is holding me back is the missing gapless playback, even in the latest 1.81 FW. I don't buy a DAP based on promises that gapless will come, eventually.....
yeah quite surprising too!

but the depth of qp1r is something to be reckoned. It's much deeper than any daps mentioned above

Re gapless of i5: I have listened to several live albums in the meantime on it and noted that on self-ripped CDs (at least in FLAC) gapless works flawless in 80% of the cases. It has more problems with downloaded files. But Cayin confirmed they have it on their to-do-list.

Re price: In audio equipment I (and especially DAPs) I do not find that the price is reliable indicator for the quality you will be getting.

Thanks for your reply, let's wait what Cayin comes up with. Regarding price, haven't been able to compare DAP's myself, depending on online shops (and reviews) abroad mostly, not much is sold in local shops over here. But what you are saying is that the i5 is a great DAP, especially considering it's price? (Let's continue this discussion in the i5 thread...)
