You're not really buying another piece of audio gear, after all, just getting a tuneup on something you already own - that should go over ok

Thanks! I don't think I want to try out my wife's patience by re-interpreting what is obvious. She endured me through my recent headphone upgraditus fever... just last few weeks, I bought Baby Orpheus, RKV MKII, Ety ER-4S and list goes on and on (about 100 CDs/DVDs/SACDs just past four weeks). Let's just say I know ALL UPS/Fedex guys for my route by first name basis

I'm trying to build a Head-Fi / Computer-Fi coalition to build my first desktop PC.

Your review was so timely and so thorough that I was immediately sold on the HeadRoom Max with Stepped Attenuators and Dual Input version. Now, it's all about the financial planning. I can't stop thinking about how you compared the old Max with the new Max for hours now. You ought to be a salesman for HeadRoom Corporation.

Thanks. I have no association with Headroom, but I do recommend anyone in the market for headphones or amps to check with them. I'm a cyber-junkie so that when it comes to buying things, which means I like to buy things from the internet through computerized ordering systems. However, I DO feel comfortable calling Headroom people in person since they are just friendly and pleasure to deal with. Why mess with a computer inventory when you can just ask a real person to check if they have something in stock or not. There are only handful of stores I don't mind calling and Headroom is one of those few.

BTW Welly Wu, you can look around to find a mint used Max for around $1000 or so (even cheaper if it has normal volume pot). Other alternative will be MOHR (Maxed Out Home with Reference module) which is a bargain considering it essentially is Max without fancy face plate (different transformers, but you can't really hear the difference). You can probably snag a mint used one with stepped attenuator for $850 or so (my educated guess, not a fact). I know that isn't exactly a pocket change, but considering you can always sell it back for mere 0-10% loss. If you are lucky and good with bargaining, you basically end up listening to a good gear at your own home for few months to years without paying money. In the past, I bought and sold few amps while making profits. And the funny thing is I sold mine at the bargain price

I know. However, if things go according to plan, I'll buy a brand new HeadRoom Max with Stepped Attenuators and a Dual Input version for $1887.00 + FedEx 3 Day Air shipping by late Christmas / New Years 2005. I just want to plain old support HeadRoom Corporation with my hard earned dollars. Without them, I wouldn't even know Head-Fi existed!

HeadRoom is going to have a special place in my bedroom in my home sooner rather than later.

Don't forget, with your 2000+ posting, you get 10% Headfi discount from Headroom. So the total is $1887-$188+shipping= $1699 + shipping
