Review of Hidizs AP100 portable HiFi music player
Jan 27, 2015 at 9:01 PM Post #361 of 1,215

I have some serious issues with my current AP100. They probably sent me a defective unit so I asked them for a replacement and they sent me this message.

Quote from Hidizs: "We are producing a new batch of AP100 recently. There will be lots of improvements including software and hardware. Therefore we would like to give you the new product instead of the old stock."

Btw, you don't have to feel ripped off since I haven't tested it yet. New one doesn't always mean better. I will compare them side by side tomorrow and will let you know.

When did you buy yours?  I prolly have the newer hardware/software anyway... guess I shouldn't worry about it since mine is working well so far.

Impressions and comparison to the old one will come later.

Edit: Added new pictures with better quality as Hidizs AP100 definitely deserves it.

Yeah, only play/pause button is a bit loose. The others are just perfect.

I detected new bugs and i will post whenever I find. My first impressions was quite positive. Src works better for me and 88.2 / 176.4 difference is more audible. If src off, hidizs will play quite narrow soundstage with rolled off treble. How can i describe the sound, sound is edged but not tough-sharp. It reminds me tape-like sound. If i can play 24 / 88.2 mode, hidizs will play more smooth and airier. Lost treble sparklings come back now. Sound getting energetic and organic. Sound stage is increased little bit. Sound is airier than non src. 24 / 176.4 mode is similar to 24 / 88.2 mode. More smooth, more energetic, more organic, less detailed and big difference is soundstage. Soundstage is much wider than 88.2 mode. In beta fw, i can't hear the soundstage difference like new one. Also bass control of new firmware is better than older ones.

Lo lock didn't work perfectly for me. In off mode, It just lock the volume and src-eq button. This is meaningless. In off mode dap should bring %100 volume.
Usb dac function has several bugs with my mac mini.(OsX 10.5.6) Output setted to 24/176 and I'm listening from iTunes. Problem is popping, crackling and drop outs. I can't tried on a windows yet. Also bass' came to my ears uncontrolled. My stereo speakers rumbling all the time.

Hidizs mode disappeared with new fw. I don't know how it works or what to do.
In the options I see storage mode. For better translation it should be Usb mode. And your dev team also add only charging option.

Best regards,
Muhammet

There is slightly difference on design of the silver white one. And the case material is a bit lighter than the old one.
Moreover the buttons are improved.

can you be more specific on the indications? (please include black chassis too)

i'm planning to purchase one at a local store and hoping to get the "new" one instead of old stock.
