I think Gsferrari was referring to what hotshot engineers call "egoboo" (an ego boost) rather than financial rewards. Some hotshot engineers prefer a "my dick is bigger than yours" contest to monetary rewards. These dudes are a pain in the butt to work with... when they're right, they're really right, and when they're wrong, watch out. The really, really good engineers are above all this and are surprisingly humble. Think Linus Torvalds versus Stallman.

ok, clearly I was wrong, maybe the mods should close this thread. It is become quite clear that some people are just eager for a fight rather than try to smooth things over.

I think there may have been some similar debates here in the past between KG and ppl; however, I may be misremembering things.

It seems to me like GS was questioning KG's credibility for financial reasons, making comparisons to head-fi's "for profit" builders. that's unsubstantiated and unacceptable. along with the personal invective, there's some useful facts being tossed back and forth. we just need to weed out the fiction.

I am upset with the way Kevin Gilmore responded to Nik. He has not apologized since and everyone here seems to support him. His arrogance and ego prevent him from responding...

Financial rewards or not - if I had an amp design of my own and if everyone was marketing it with my name on it...I will push the brand. I would be stupid not to do so...financial rewards will come from somewhere else with all this publicity.

No one does ANYTHING for free...everything has a catch.

Nobody is tryint to pick a fight KR. I just want Kevin Gilmore put in his place. He cannot walk over everyone at will thinking he is the supreme being.

He has to apologize to Nik and failure to do so is a gross violation of ethics. He attacked him without reason and I am yet to see an apology from the favorite amplifier designer.

It also sounds foolish when someone goes about promoting their own designs and bashing anything else that performs the same function...maybe even better than his own designs...who knows ??

If KG has indeed criticised Mikhails, Phils and Ray's products in the past then he is clearly a pompous and arrogant individual with an abnormally inflated ego.

this is the definition of unsubstantiated, speculating about some "catch," KG profiting "from somewhere." what evidence is there of this? he is not a professional audio guy, as far as i can tell, and is not trying to break into the business.

also, he may not have apologized (poor form), but he did edit the harshest part of the original post. i think you're totally out of line here, but i do sympathize with you on the editing of posts without notification -- contentious threads are almost always handled poorly by head-fi, in my opinion.

Cut your losses here and move on. The misunderstanding is between Nik and KG, not you. I'm no fan of the amps but KG understandably was incensed at being called a technician which is a relatively menial term in American academic parlance as compared to its italian translation. KG and Nik have sparred on previous occasion and the last time I remember, it was Nik doing the attacking. SO I would pretty much consider it even. Neither of them is crying out for your sympathy. The mods are preventing this from escalating and are quite right in deleting your posts. I don't think you are really adding to the scientific content of this debate. Unlike many of the for-profit members at headfi KG gains nothing by trashing Nik or the Rudistor amp. All his amps are made for himself. His designs are used by other vendors like ANtness and ZZZ. your questioning his motives is out of line. ANd stop denigrating his contributions. I've made similar mistakes in the past . It is well said that "Never say anything in anger or you'll make the best speech you'll ever regret." Seriously, let it go.
